You have put a right question in the wrong forum!.!. for average elite it is just impossible!.!. as someone rightly put it - life would be cruel in such a state !

But there is another dimension where the suggestion is highly relevent - the dynamic witness to reality - the one philosopher like JK spoke of - just be!.!. It is not idle submission to all that happens - it is a state of dynamic obervation and appreciation of the significance of the seemingly random events !.!.

Did not Jesus and many divine people say "dont worry about the morrow for the morrow will take care of itself" !? It is not just fatalism as it appears at first sight!.!. leaving everything to destiny!.!.

Here the dynamic mind stares at the natural reaction of events in response to the unseen stimuli acting in the background!.!. It is a spiritual plane not easily comprehended by people of secular pursuits!.!. Even Jesus said the above words to his disciples engaged in spiritual task only!.!. though it could be followed by seekers in similar wavelength!.!.

Osho discusses this theory in a book of his (Random Thoughts) that I had occasion to read years ago!.!. He talks of two major approches to divinity!.!. "Knock it shall be opened unto you" approach that Jesus spoke of and the direct opposite of "what is there to be knocked at!? God has not hidden anything from you (suggesting that the seeker should sharpen his perceptions rather than expect to be led into the mystery!.!.)"

He scoffs at the latter theory saying that it would suit only active seekers endowed with great patience and perseverence and not the average seekers and enlightened ones like JK ought not to propagate the theory!.!. In other words, he recommends the message of Jesus to knock (pray intensively) to get what you want

In Hindu theology also the concept of Advaita (non dualism) Visishtadvaita (qualified non dualism) and Dvaita (dualism) schools of spirituality akin to this exist!.!. each suited to specific endowments of the seekers!.!.!

I had tried to venture into a complex field due to your querry!.!. But I wanted to show that the reactions of nearly all the respondents are only with ref to secular life and not correct on spiritual plane!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

To just BE sounds like being some sort of automaton!.

Although it's not directly mentioned in your question goals are a product of personality or character or conversely the lack there of!. Many people, to me at least, seem to not have any one specific goal!. They jump all over the place, wanting to be an astronaut one day and a circus clown the next!. You also have the type of person that is content doing nothing for absolutely no reason, or at least that's what most observers would deduce based on the persons behavior!.

Back to the question at hand!. I don't think there is any one person out there that has the lack of feeling it would take to just BE!. It's not our goals that shape us, we shape our goals!. Even those of us that seem to have no aspirations have them!.!.!.!.it might be tucked under the facade of a lack of motivation but in many cases that is the goal for many individuals that would demonstrate said behavior!. Some people just have the goal of doing nothing!.

Even a person who's seeking to just BE has a goal, because they have a personality!.!.!.because they feel!.!.!.because they are!.!.!.

Well Rita,

I've never grew up with a major goal or ambition!. I embrace the life that I have at this moment!. You don't have to have a goal to enjoy life!. The only thing I want is to live a happy life and that's something everyone strives for!. There's not really a better answer to this question!. Some people have goal's others just don't!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i dont think one is more important than the other, but to have a goal can have a much greater affect on ones life in the bigger picture!. to be is to live (and thats great and all), but to have a goal is to live with a purpose and passion!. so when you're on your deathbed, would you rather say you lived or that you lived with passion!? i know my answerWww@QuestionHome@Com

Goals are a temporary thing to fill in the blanks our mind cannot bear to see empty!. We do not know what we need!.!.!.we do know what we want or would like and pursue these things!.!.!.which create emptiness!. Look where we are as a world!. More, bigger, better, faster go Go GOOOO !!!! Orchestrated insanity, but insanity none the less!. People are stretching out in differences between them!. Many have no goals and others have goals based upon the wrong things!. Who do yopu know today who has a goal of character developement and understanding the meaning of love and freedom!. Virtue stands far off!. And where it is near it has been redefined and become subverted!. But the stars shine in the darkness!.!.!.not the day and dI believe in this time there will be giants once more!. Not of this days stars are they to spring but from a simple cloth are they cut!.!.!. In the end it is too simple for us to accept (easily) Our greatest enemy is hidden in the last place we would look and the greatest truth has always been right before our eyes!.!.!.!.!.but it is too easy for ego to accept and it is ignored!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it's difficult to live a satisfying life without a goal, or several, changing from time to time!. We are defined by the goals we pursue!. And perhaps, how well we can live with their frustration or failure!. That defines how we "be", and it's how we learn, extending experience which is life itself!. Now I'm old and frail, I miss windmills I can tilt at! (Some used to nickname me Don Quixote!)Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well justing "BEing" is a goal of sorts!. We are goal oriented being with purpose!. Some relate that to a higher purpose, some don't, but we all have an inner desire to make meaning in our lives!. For most people who just "are," life often seems cruel and unjust, pointless even!. We need to have goals, to have things to which we aspire!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Your life matters!.!.!.!. Even if you never 'figure out' your life purpose, by just being alive you've already made a difference!.!.!.!. If we feel flat after achieving a goal, then maybe the goal isn't what's important!.!.!. So if it's not important, why do we set goalsWww@QuestionHome@Com

just be, goals are for followers and weak minded people!.!. smart people know life is short!.!. live in the moment!.!. dont save your money, try new things!.!. and avoid time wasters: people that make you wait, they can waste their life but its not cool if they are wasting yours!.!. take all time wasting personal!.!. and live damnit!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No, people need to have a vision, a goal , to strive for a purpose!. Otherwise , you die, not physically but spiritually and mentally!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Everyone must have a dream and reach for the stars!. To not try for betterment means you are lost already!. No matter how much you may know there is more to learn!. If man (the species) had no goals we'd still be living in caves!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is impossible to just be!. All living things have goals, actions, instincts, etc!. We continually move forward and grow!.
That is why I work hard on MY goal to become a chimp!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe having this annoying thing from inside or outside that says "you should be this, do this!.!.etc to respect yourself, or to have a meaning to yourlife" is the most harmful state of being!.
