Question: Anti-drug people: wake up!?
An answer posted by Jeff T, on a question someone posted asking about drugs:

--------------------------------------!.!.!.
Umm!.!.!.what!?!? Let me tell you, I'm not that old now (27), but when I was younger I took just about every drug that was ever invented, some many times, and I am still on the Dean's List at my college today!. I don't mess with that life anymore (after I got arrested), but I see nothing wrong with trying things for yourself!. Unless you're a kid!. Wait until you can legally move out first!. Don't let hypocrites who have never once done them tell you drugs are bad, and only illegal drugs will destroy you, while they take a drag off their cigarette and down another shot of scotch (tobacco and alcohol are two of the biggest known causes of death in the US)!. And remember that our own president was a coke head when he was younger!. The key is moderation!.

All the drugs look different!. My only advice is to be careful, because a "crime" where the committer and the victim are the same person (not hurting anyone but yourself) is more important to the police than catching a serial killer or rapist!. Jails are filled with inmates arrested for the possession of marijuana alone, so much that they're running out of room to put the truly violent people!. Someone who smokes a joint is just as big of a threat to society as this dude here who robbed a bank, or this guy who burned a church, and so on!. My god, this country is so ***-backwards in certain areas!. But this is the land of the free!

So here's my question: Do some of you agree that drugs are on this planet for a reason and they are considered way worse than they really are, or is everyone in this country ignorant robots fed by propaganda!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

People who've done or do drugs take them and their consequences too lightly, and people who've never taken any drugs take it more seriously!. No one seems to ever have middle grounds on this stuff!.

Some people do drugs and are great people, others end up being complete f&#k ups!. Some people who don't do drugs are great, and others can be complete f&#k ups!.

That being said, I think there is a reason drugs are on this planet, but mostly for medical purposes!. Besides maybe artists/performers who might take drugs to be more creative, I am unaware of any major success stories from anyone who has taken drugs unless you really think Bush is the ultimate leader!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Certain drugs can be very helpful like drugs used in context given by a doctor, but I hate recreational drugs!
When you use it not only hurts you but everyone!. They're illegal for a reason it wasn't just because someone got bored and wanted to make someones life harder!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think your statement that the drug user is the only victim is WRONG!. You are not hurting anyone but the person or persons in the auto accident, or the person you rob to get the money for your drugs or how about your loved ones that see you deteriorate before their eyes!.
By the way tobacco and alcohol are drugs too!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

they are here for a reason most likely but that doesn't mean manufacturing them into potentially harmful things is the reason for that plant being on this planet!. everything comes from something, whether it's natural or synthetic!. i've done my fair share of drugs and enjoyed it, but that doesn't mean i think cocaine and heroin should be legal

basically as much as people like to think the government is only out to get all of our money, it's untrue with this!. if they wanted to improve our economy (because all they care about is money) they probably would legalize meth, heroin, cocaine, etc!.!.!. but what would that do to the people of this country!?

"physicians constantly tell people "Stop smoking!. Don't drink!." along with "Eat less, exercise more"!."

maybe because EATING too much, not getting enough exercise, DRINKING, and SMOKING, are obviously not good for your health!. what are pysicians there for!? your health

Someone who smokes a joint is just as big of a threat to society as this dude here who robbed a bank, or this guy who burned a church, and so on

and that's definitely an exaggeration!. there are actually programs where you can get minor possesion expunged from your record!. i'm pretty sure robbing is a felony charge though and there is no getting that off your recordWww@QuestionHome@Com

I grew up in a town riddled by soft drugs and full of beer guzzling teens!. I joined the military as a medic, later became a paramedic (lots of drug users in my area), and then went on to become a nurse!.!.!.as a Nurse, I have worked with drug rehab, drug detox, and inmate populations!. I have escorted many patients to AA and NA meetings!.
Admittedly, lots of people can smoke pot or use LSD and keep up a normal life for a while!.!.!.but not forever!.
I doubt that Jeff T used as much as he claims!.!.!.or, if he did, that he is on any list at college (not even "enrolled Students")!. Addiction is an illness, and no one can overcome it on their own (not even after being arrested), and certainly not within a few years!. It is a lifetime struggle!. Crack, Heroin, or even Percocet would easily have taken over his life, or anyone elses!.
Abuse of substances is illegal for many reasons!. From the perspective of a government, drug use makes workers less productive (less tax income), increases the risk of lost time injuries (less tax income, possibility of government disability payments), increases the risk of automobile and other injuries (ditto), and, most importantly, people committing crimes for drug money increase the crime rate (embarrassing in front of other governments, costs tax money to investigate, try, incarcerate, breaks public trust)!. I have interviewed addicts who callously steal pain pills from their own grandmothers, who steal money from a 2 year old's piggy bank to buy pot, and who rent their preschool children to perverts for drugs or drug money!. I am aware of a heroin addict who fried her own baby in Crisco, and I've seen plenty of homeless people choosing pot or beer over food for their children!. So I do not want to hear that the addict is the only victim--I know better!.
I've been offered $35 in jail script for a single multivitamin ("I am a heroin addict, I need all the help that I can get") and I have medicated addicts for the signs and symptoms of opiate withdrawal and DTs!. Not a happy situation to be in!.
Admittedly, marijuana became illegal because papermakers did not want competition!. But THC is BAD stuff in the long run!. I have seen the psychosis that it causes several times!. And marijuana smoke is every bit as bad as cigarette smoke!.
And please note that alcohol and tobacco, while legal, are controlled!.!.!.and physicians constantly tell people "Stop smoking!. Don't drink!." along with "Eat less, exercise more"!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
