Assuming that your discussion is limited to beauty or brains in human beings, it is a difficult argument to make!. Your opponent will point out that all of the marvelous things we enjoy -- our homes, transportation, entertainment and computers are all, no doubt, made possible by people with brains!.

Your only hope to win this debate lies in the vagueness of the proposition!. It does NOT limit beauty to human beings!. Beauty is all around us and without it humans could not exist!. The greatest brains would be brought down to depression and despair were they denied beauty!. Indeed, much mental greatness is devoted to the creation of beauty!. Architects design buildings not just to make office space, but to rise gracefully above our streets and lift men's and women' spirits!. Consider the lines of a Lear jet!. Yes it is designed to fly; but it is also designed to be beautiful!. Even the designers of functional kitchen appliances expend constant effort to make them appealing to the human eye!.

Which is better: beauty or brains!?

Consider the breathtaking fall foliage, the splendor of snow-capped mountains, the delecate beauty of a dew dappled rose!. These thilngs are beauty in and of themselves!. Could the "brains" of our world function without beauty!? I think not!.

Yet beauty can and does stand alone!. Brains cannot stand alone and, in fact, are driven to create beauty!. So if we are forced to say that one is "better" than the other, then Beauty must win because it can be self-sufficient!.

Of course, we are fortunate as human beings that we are not forced to choose and that we can cultivate and enjoy both!. So I conclude that while Beauty can claim to trump brains, each is enhanced by the other and we should be equally thankful for both!.

Please let me know how you make out on your debate!. I'll be most interested to know!.

It depends on the nature of the thing or person involved!. For example, if it's a painting, I don't require that it have brains!. If it's a human being, without brains I see no real beauty!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

neither is better to me, but both are required if you wanna get with me!.

beauty alone is neccesary, but not sufficient!.

same goes with intelligence aloneWww@QuestionHome@Com
