If this "authentic being," higher mind, or essential Self can be stabilized and the conditioned defensive beliefs (ego) completely transcended, Reality conforms to the choices of our true Self!. There is an affect on our experience of physical reality!.

I believe we have the ability to use our higher mind as long as we do not allow opinions of another person or persons or society to get in the way, but this is just about impossible!. Some people who stay to themselves on a regular basis or know how to shut down from other people would be more able to use their higher mind!.

The higher mind can be achieved, but to stay in this supernatural domain is impossible because of the reality of our "real world" conforming!.

There are two versions of my answer;

1!. YES
Majority of the poor people are happier than the rich people!. As those poor people lack the material and physical happiness, they enjoy wonderful time being around their loved ones!. While rich people weave a web of materialistic and physical world around them whereby they end up being loners!.

2!. NO
Sometimes, when you end up going down the drain in the poverty, you lose the sight of any positivity around you!. You are just looking for revenge or some evil thoughts that would never be possible if you were not broke!.

Hence, having a higher mind requires one to have "bare minimum" material/physical realities around him/her, yet concentrate more on the happier purpose of existence i!.e!. thinking, sharing, laughing, weeping, enjoying, suffering, etc!. And keep yourself away from the poverty as much as possible by striving for the best out there!.

A lotus leaf sits amidst a huge volume of water !. And yet no water sticks to its leaf !. The water droplets roll off the leaf !.

yes i believe so!.!.you need a higher / more philosophical mind in order to control your materialistic and instinctive desires (to a degree) so you don't become a slave to these things!.
