If it's an opinion, I wouldn't care either way what they were saying!. I don't "respect" or "not respect" a person's opinions about things such as their favorite flavor of ice cream, so why would I act differently in regards to their "philosophical opinions"!?

That said, I think when we're talking about philosophy, the only statements that matter are those which are attempting to make a truth statement!. That is, statements that attempt to accurately describe reality!.

Since theists are not concerned with reality, seeing how any definition of God cannot possibly exist in reality, the only rational conclusion is to disregard any attempts at describing reality by theists!.

They do not have a methodology by which to arrive at truth statements!. We know this because if they did, they'd reject the Gods that were inflicted upon them during childhood!. Philosophy and science are intimately related because they have the same fundamental feature: the statements that are made within these disciplines always bow down to the methodology!.

If there is no methodology, then we cannot call someone's thought process "Philosophy!."Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think that the basic question of philosophy is "Is there a God!?"

The camps divide about that line and "derive" their thoughts accordingly!.

The preliminary view is that your respect will be relative to whether or not you believe in God!. My secondary thoughts are that all opinions should at least be considered or examined!. Each camp is capable of making errors, and each camp has its share of great thinkers!. Fellow posters, it would be a denial of reality to think otherwise!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

zero credibility and zero intellectual respect too!.
