Question: Should I start listening to music again!?
Back in march, I got tired of the Media and stopped watching it!. Within a month, I no longer watched TV and I got rid of it and my cable service!.

After that, slowly but surely I underwent a LOT of lifestyle changes!. I

~stopped eating meat, eggs, dairy, soda pop and juice, and processed food!.
~stopped buying brand name clothes brand new, or clothes with a brand name plastered on them (aside from shoes)
~stopped watching movies
~stopped using the internet for entertainment purposes
~avoided websites with ANY sort of advertising or any propagandistic purpose (that I could tell, at least)
~stopped buying knick knacks and other things I didn't need, and got rid of everything that I had that I didn't use on at least a weekly basis

and the hardest thing of all was when I gave up music!. I deleted my entire 3,000 song library!. I found that music was a distraction for me and that it created false emotions!. Granted, such emotions were usually positive (confidence, romance, calm, etc) but since they wouldn't otherwise be there and weren't natural, I began to be against it!. Additionally, as I pretty much explained I tried to cut corporate America out of my life as much as possible, and I'm not on good terms with Corporate entertainment!. I believe that their music establishes the status quo, is propaganda, is advertisement, and that it degrades men, women, and minorities!.

But, I haven't listened to a radio in probably 4 years!. If you asked me what was playing on the radio right now, I truly couldn't tell you (And mind you, I'm 17--you'd think I would know!)!. The music that I listen to includes:

70s-90s rock
some 80s-90s rap (but, only after checking the lyrics to see that the music didn't degrade women)
80s-90s R&B

I used to listen to a whole lot more than that, but at this point, I only desire these such songs!. Everything else, I think I could keep out of my life no problem!.

--I'm having no problem keeping up with all of the other commitments I made ^^^^^, but I'm having a really hard time keeping myself from listening to music!. And as it is, I end up humming the songs in my head anyway--

Even if the songs that I listen to are generally okay, though, the record companies aren't! This is what I most have the issue with!.

Would it be okay if I started listening to music again!? What do you think!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You know what!? Seriously Don't listen to these losers!.

I know exactly what you mean!. I flipped out one day and decided to stop doing a lot of things too!. It happened while I was pumping gas at one of those stupid Esso stations that forces people to listen to their commercials via their 1984 style telescreen on the gas pumps!. I was so tired that day and it was cold and it was so loud and it was talking to me like I was a flippin' retard consumer and I Just wished I had a screw driver so I could stab my ear drums out and poke my eyes out!. Then and only then would I be able to live freely!. Without being bombarded on a daily basis with this acceptable and very legal social anti intellectual corporate graffiti I call advertising!.

I cancelled my cable too and hardly ever listen to the radio!. When I do I'm passionate about university community radio that offers spoken word on topics like philosophy, politics, anarchism, gender issues, vegan-ism and animal rights etc!.!.!.

I became a vegetarian and dabbling with growing vegetables and I started riding my bike almost everywhere!. I seriously almost never use my car anymore!.

I'm a multi instrumentalist basement recording musician!. I seriously boycott mainstream media!. I stopped playing music for what seemed like an eternity which was only 4 months!. I stopped listening to music for 3 years and slowly reintroduced myself to independent music via community radio!. I urge you to try it yourself!. I don't care if I sound like a cheerleader for this station but where I'm from I listen to ciut 89!.5

Anyway I'm very thrilled that I'm not alone in thinking like this!.

They need us moe than we need them!. That's why advertising and marketing spend millions each year to convince us we need what they sell: Because it's difficult! If it was easy, they wouldn't have to spend millions!.!.!.

peace outWww@QuestionHome@Com

that is way too many commitments especially for your age!. i dont like the entertainment business either but without it there wouldnt be anything else and yes its perfectly fine if you listen to wutever music you want to!. take it easy!. i know its good to have commitments but theyre not worth it if you are gonna be torturedWww@QuestionHome@Com

Try classical music!. It's soothing and all instrumental!. I love Ravel's Bolero, Orf's Carmina Burana, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Bach, Beethoven, Brahams's and Chopin!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

listen to the music!Www@QuestionHome@Com

That's amazing that you have such commitment and control over your life!. I salute you!!

But anyways, I don't think music can hurt!. Music is considered the one "pure" thing in the world, because (most of it) is in the eyes (or ears) of the beholder!. Who cares if they are selling something!. If the song is good, if it makes you happy, it isn't selling anything to you!. It is just giving you a positive emotion!.

But if you really have something against it, stick to your commitment!. I don't know your stand exactly so I can't really decide for you!.!.!.

I would! Lol!.

Good luck!. : )Www@QuestionHome@Com

i think you should!. i agree the material coporate america stuffs down our throat is kinda retarded at times !.!.!.80% to 90 tops but a decision like that at 13!? i hope these decisions are yours and not what you are being told because your views and philosophys on life will change inevitably like it or not!. and i hope when they do change that 4 years was worth it!. i hope you start back as long as they dont mess with your morals!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

YES! Music is one of the greatest things in my life! I love it!.!. The fact that hearing that one song on the radio reminds of a certain time and how you felt (and you get that feeling back) and who was there and what everything around you looked and smelt like!.
It also makes me feel so many different emotions, listening to a certain song could make me feel all giddy and loved up!.
also alot of songs (not so much nowadays) have really good lyrics that make you think about your life and the world around you with a much different perspective!.
If you get back into music heres a suggestion!.!. Hard House, Drum & Bass and Hard Trace!!!
Hope I persuaded you to enjoy music again! Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is difficult to keep from being influenced by propaganda!. America is so good at influencing what people think that nazi Germany used our tactics to control their population!. Hitler adopted a lot of our tactics!.!.!. and this was back in the 30's!. Do you think America has gotten better at this!?

If you are really interested in listening to bands that aren't promoting evil corporations research the band!. For example I like the band System of a Down because of what their members do!. System of a Down is very politically active and tackle several subjects including the Armenian Genocide, War on Drugs, religion, and censorship!. The band is a part of the Axis of Justice, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing together musicians, music fans, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

music, is an essential vitamin for the soul!. yes there propaganda, there is degrading words, & other notable offenses in much of modern music, but it sounds to me that you're already aware of such things & exclude them!. but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying it all together!. if you already put aside the negative corrupted music & listen to the true soul found in many artists living & dead, then i believe they help make you a stronger person!. so go ahead & plug into what you like!. & don't let the "corporate america" let you down, because after all, i doubt they're concerned about 1 persons actions, no matter how noble they are!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I understand your concerns with Corporate America!. I made a decision in my early 20's to give up many things because of concerns about how corporations were impacting my view of the world!. I also gave up meat!. But, I couldn't ever give up music, but I only listen to music that I want!. Now, a decade or so has passed, and I've mellowed out a bit!. I'm still a raging vegetarian, but I will occasionally eat a jelly candy (even though it has gelatin)!. I still don't listen to radio, I haven't had cable in over a decade (and don't miss it), I went through a phase a year ago where I got a strange random addiction to gossip mags but I threw them all out after a couple of months because I realized how they were impacting me!. It's all about balance!. In order to get more balance in my life (and less anger) I started reading up on Buddhism!. In terms of listening to music, follow your intuition!. You're a great person (you obviously care A LOT), so why not just trust yourself!? Www@QuestionHome@Com
