OR!.!.

2) There are no objective standards of beauty that would be accepted by everyone since beauty is in the eye of the beholder!.

In different countries people see beauty as the dowry, or their status, in some tribes in Africa, the bigger you are the more attractive you are, but most people want to be as skinny as possible!. Being fatter would mean they eat better, birth easier and etc!. Some see beauty as functionality, men like more feminine looking women because they're more fertile, but most don't realize it, even if they don't want kids or whatever!. But in reality if everyone married whoever was more beautiful to them, life wouldn't exist lol or whatever, most people don't marry the most attractive, strengthening the beholder theory!. You think whomever you get to be most beautiful, because to you, they are!.

Some men have even been known to encourage the wife to look less beautiful (less make-up,frumpy clothes) so that no one will steal them away!. But people have different standards of beauty!. Some people want someone healthy looking, which fits into the functionality!.

In America everyone looks different, thus making choices available , but in most tribes and even centuries past, everyone looks the same, same clothing, same hair, same skin, eyes, body shape etc, so what determines who's more beautiful!? What if its arranged whom you end out with, do you still think others to be more beautiful!? its pretty hard to say O_O
To some people the way everyone displays beauty may vary, in middle eastern countries women cover up their beauty, so it is only for their husband to see!. But to most us unveiling ourselves is disgusting, and to some they think hiding yourself is silly, but no one has a right to judge on what they think is beautiful!. I probably missed the question lol!. oopsieWww@QuestionHome@Com

I believe we learn the appreciation of beauty in such things as art, poetry, music, Home Decor, and style and fashion!. However, personal grooming and looks are viewed differently and individually!. Yet, we learn through appreciation not to value people by their looks, but by their character!. I don't know how to categorize this answer into your question!. You may be able to do that!. We don't agree on beauty because we don't know to what degree a person sees beauty!. However, we many times agree on such and such is pretty, not knowing the deapth nor where the beauty is seen!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Both these views are true ! There ARE objective standards to human attractiveness [ I assume you are talking people, not plants, music, art, etc ] Psychologists have shown in many experiments that certain symmetry of nose ratio to face, head size ratio to body size, distance between eyes, distance between eyes and hairline , etc!., etc!. all create a look of attractiveness to the majority of humans in most regions and of all ages, from babies upwards!. However, 2] is also true, since the key word in above is "majority" so these standards are not accepted by 'everyone', only by a majority!. Summing up , beauty IS in the eye of the beholder, but most 'beholders' would agree on beauty , most of the time, if that makes sense !Www@QuestionHome@Com

I believe 1!. is the answer for most people, after all the years I've spent in online communities and offline, and reading books from 1600s on till now!.

I wish 2!. were the answer!.

I've even done personal anecdotal research on this topic to conclude this for certain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
