Yes!. During sleep, the brain organizes all of the stuff that you observed and learned during the day!. It chooses what to keep and what to forget!. During REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, your memories fuse together to make dreams, which are sometimes ridiculous!. If you try to live life to the fullest during the day, but you don't sleep, your brain is to preoccupied with staying awake and controlling your movement to organize your thoughts and brief memories!. So I am forced to answer your question with another: What's the point of living life to the fullest if you can't remember it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

You must do both!

The most dreamy state, where you are in the deepest in sleep is REM!. To get the most out of your day and be the most awake you must get the best quality sleep possible and the best possible sleep you can get is whilst the mind is in a state or REM!.

So, go to bed, get as much sleep as possible, dream as much as you can and theeen make the most of your days!.
