If illiteracy increases how will people read what's on the internet!?

However, with that said, I do believe that computers have been detrimental to young people!. They are learning to use a keyboard, but not to write!. I believe they will be able to read and type, but will have no appreciation for what writing a letter means!. They will be able to sit down and send Grandma an e-mail, an electronic birthday card, but they won't be able to address one to her in their own handwriting!.

My grandmother never learned to write!. Her mother taught her to read by reading the Bible!. She saw the letters and learned to print them!. But she never learned cursive!. One of my most precious possessions is a card she sent me on my 16th birthday!. She almost always had somebody around who would write a note and address an envelope for her!. But when she sent me this card in 1965 there must not have been anyone around to do these things for her!. The words are printed in Granny's script and are previous to me because they were the words she was thinking and feeling at that moment in time!.

That card is 43 years old and Granny crossed over in 1988!.

I don't believe that the computer and electronic books are going to take the place of "real books" but I do believe that they are going to minimize the education our children of the next generation are going to get!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

This information age has made things better and worse!. Art and music is much more accessible so is there a devaluation of good art in our culture in favor of the fast paced consumerism of the technical age!? Or is this fast paced consumerism helping literacy and promoting the arts and culture!? Is it influencing people to become more involved!? I'm not saying the great novels are obsolete I think that they will eventually become like hidden treasure!. Everything now is so 'original' that it doesn't have depth or meaning other than what is happening right now!. As great as it is for our time we can't forget the past, we are better off learning from it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Dear Friend,
Yes, I think and believe that the future technology will change our lives in many ways that we cannot imagine before!. It just happened in the near and far past!. It is of course true, the internet and the computers will affect us and the whole world! But, if the people are educated well in time, I think and want to believe that illiteracy will not increase in the future!. If people enjoy reading and learning; I believe the future technology of computer will help them to increase their education, and the world of their thought, and the world of humanity!.
We must try for the better future world!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

True!. Most People are using E-Books now, so they dont go to the library, and also, the library is considered 'boring' these days, people of the new generation only care about the information technology and information access,
literacy WILL decrease because of the low number of readers,,

well!.!.!.!. thats my opinion :DWww@QuestionHome@Com

Perhaps at some time but not soon!. There are still too many authors that make good money the old fashioned way & won't go via e-books!. One reason, too many hackers & ways for revenue to be lost & e books are generally discounted!. also, books are still popular, it's difficult to put a cherished e-book on the shelf in your library!. I'm sure it will happen in time, but I don't think we are there yet!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree that future generations will have greater difficulties with reading and mathematics!. It would seem that younger people have become accustom to everything being quick and easy!. You need not look far from Yahoo Answers to see that illiteracy is plaguing the world!.

You need Chiefs and Indians!.!.!.looks like we should have plenty of indians!?

Yes, and the death of letter came when the telephone was invented!. The death of theater was predicted when movies became popular!. The death of movies was predicted when TV became commercially viable!. Although letter writing and theater may be considered as on life support, reports of their death has been greatly exaggerated!. Just because something is no longer the most popular medium in its genre doesn't mean it will disappear from the Earth!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I definitely agree!. This is the age of information baby!. Don't miss your books though, you'll be carrying around a digital hologram in which is connected to a network so you can read any book you like, anywhere, anytime!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is always time for a good book, even those who depend on the internet, would not dream of doing away with the written manuscripts!. There are and will be books!.!.!.To say that people will read them!.!.!.that's another question!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What people are doing online is "reading"!. The increase of internet use is increasing literacy!. Real books will never be obsolete!. They may decrease in number though!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
