Question: Do we truly live in a world of freedom of speech!?
I'm not saying all this to anger or offend, but I believe in the following:

1) People who are hopelessly ill and dying should just be put out of their misery

2) I do not wish to live beyond 60 as I see life as pointless after that, but anyone would think that's ridiculous!. It is my choice and my view I know people have wonderful lives after 60 but mine is not going to be!.

3) I believe that if I try to commit suicide, doctors are not entitled to attempt to save my life

These are my true feelings!. If you were to meet me in real life I would never repeat all this stuff!. I'm not looking for attention or anything because Ive believed in these fundamentals most of my life and no-one or nothing is going to change them!.

If we live in a world of freedom of speech, why can we not say things like that without being told "Don't be so ridiculous!."

I live in a care home where some of the resident's are never going to be leaving, and they don't have anything to live for no family or anything and I just think what's the point!. Some of them don't even know what day it is, or who they are for that matter!.

i think to a certain extent we do!. However there are cases wen we alter what we say because we know that society wudn't agree and cases when society will change what we say for us!.
There are still cases in which people are arrested for speaking out and therefore how we can we live in a society with a true freedom of speech!.

Freedom of speech only extends as far as saying what we're allowed to say!. The mass media dictates virtually everything that we're allowed to say: directly or indirectly!.

1 - I agree entirely

2 - You'll feel different when you get to 60!.

3 - Suicide is the biggest mistake that anybody can ever make!. If you do it, then you'll find out why when you get here!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If the government fines or imprisons or tortures or executes you for something you say, then your freedom of speech is being violated!. If people disagree with what you say and tell you that your ideas are ridiculous, they're not violating your freedom of speech, they're simply exercising their own!. As Nat Hentoff has said, the First Amendment protects us against censorship, not against criticism!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Freedom of speech depends on common sense, effect and intelligence!.

Life is a wonderful thing; to jump off a bridge when someone else living in poverty would give the world to have what you have is a bit stupid, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone interrupted you in the process!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Agree with you all the way

to answer your heading:

we do have freedom of speehch, but its very limited, depends what country, who you are, were you are

i think its safe to say that theres more of 'control' over us than freedom of speech!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

well ther is freedom of speech and ther is plain common sense of wright and wrong!.

isnt the argument of "freedom of speech" pushing the boundary of "political correctness" itselfWww@QuestionHome@Com

your a cynic!.

i have a mentor/friend who's more cynic than you are and believes what you just mentioned above!.
i applaud you because being cynical is being intelligent!.

congratulations!Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is no freedom of speech anymore, and I can prove it!.

**** **** pussy

See, somebody decided what words will and will not be read by the members of this site!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can say whatever you want to me, dear lady!.

But if you say things like this to me, I swear I'll do my damnedest to convince you otherwise!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Freedom of Speech just means that "Congress shall make no law" to prevent you from saying points 1, 2, and 3!. It also prevents anyone from saying "Don't be ridiculous"!.
Www@QuestionHome@Com

You can say what you want but when people say something like "Don't be ridiculous!." That's their freedom of speech as well!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

RE: Freedom of Speech ~

To a certain extent, yes, but we do self-censor!.

I feel your views on wanting to be alive over age 60 might radically alter as you hit about 55 !!!
Www@QuestionHome@Com

you can only speak for yourself, be careful not to make yourself a prisoner of your own wordsWww@QuestionHome@Com

No of course we don't, even on here we are regulated and have to be careful of what we say in case we get scrubbed!.

I love you too! xWww@QuestionHome@Com

NOWAY and i doubt we ever will!

no we live in a country and yes just dont make threats or be a racistWww@QuestionHome@Com

Dear Lucious_lady,
I know the difference between home care living!. That is where somebody takes care of you at the residents you live in!. And the rest care place!. Is where they take you and they supervise you at all cost!.

Regarding you taking your life!. I think you have many of many issues about yourself then to perfectly be worrying about others problems!. Cause if you want to end your life!. You have issues of your own!. If you are in a place where they supervise you at any cost!. I am assure they are watching you and paying close attention to what you are doing at all times!. I am sorry you have so many difficulties in your life!. I am sure if you seek God's help!. And talk to him privately!. He will answer some questions you have on your mind!. And need to ask God first to come into your heart!. And ask forgiveness for all what you have done in your life!. Better to be sure you are going to heaven then Hell!. That is my suggestion to you!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

You're actually battling your own argument in this!.

You say why can't you say things like this, ( When clearly you are and can), without people saying, "Don't be ridiculous"!. Can't you see that although you believe that you have the right to say what you think, but you don't think that people have the right to disagree with you!. In effect you are saying that others don't have the right to voice their opinions unless they agree with you, therefore in your opinion denying others the right of freedom of speech!.

Of course you have the right to say such things, but you have to accept that others have the right to say what they feel also, even if it's not the same opinion as your own!.

To have ones own opinion and having the right to disagree with you is the power of intelligent debate, that is the power of progress, that is having the freedom of speech!. What you suggest is not freedom of speech, if all you hear is what you want to hear!.

You never know, someone who wants to disagree with you, just might happen to have something to say that may interest you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

We do live in such a world - you can say that here!. What you are asking for though is more than words You want action and inaction and a change in the law!.

I am a service user too and yes of course you are entitled to your opinions and others are also actively campaining for these rights!.

At a social level it upsets people to hear somebody in so much pain and due to the very same freedom of speech they may respond however they wish!.

As service users we have a different take on all manner of subjects!. I sympathise but till the law is changed they have no option but to bring you back otherwise its murder or carelessness!.

join a campaign for assisted suicide!. I understand the 'whats the point!? but the point is that until the time that the law gets changed - no one feels they have the right to pull the plug on anyone else!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

i don't believe there is such a thing as free speech, there's always going to be limits to what is acceptable to say, as for your views on not wanting to live after 60, well i do, cos i want to be a right victor meldrew, and i'm looking forward to it! i can see your points and the view you are taking, but not everyone gets dementia!.
my wife worked for several years at a care home, and some of the things she told me were truly heart breaking, like not knowing even the closest of relatives, and freaking out when they approached!. if i knew i were going to get dementia as i got older, then yes, i'd probably agree with you not wanting to live past a certain age!.

as for doctors not reviving suicide attempts, if someone really means to kill themselves, they going to make sure there ain't anyone around to save them!.

how about looking at the smaller things, and maybe you outlook on life will change, look at the things you take for granted, like the clouds, and the grass, and stuff!.

Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course it is human nature to try to save everyone!. Sick or healthy!. Whether we want to be saved, or not!. I am not sure why we act like this!. But we do!. Like the guy in the Florida Keys who jumped in the ocean to save his dog from a shark attack!. I like dogs too!. But not THAT much!. The vet bills are a fortune! It amazes me to see people pay for kidney dialysis, etc, etc!. and other expensive things for their dogs and cats!. If it is that sick, put it out of it's misery and buy another pet!

OK, back to you!. No!. #2; I know that MOST people are horribly out-of-shape past age 50!. That would make anyone want to give up! But go to the internet and look up a guy named Jack LaLanne!. 93 now and in incredible shape!. Exercise is the answer to being 60, and healthy!.

And is all I am going to preach about being over 60!. You know what you want in life, good or bad!. And at age 60, you should be old enought to know what you want!.

Www@QuestionHome@Com

I agree or sort of with most of with what you have to say but!.!.

1!. people who are ill and dying should just be put out of their misery!.!.!.if they so chose to!.

2!.Wait to you are 59, then see what you have say!. I know that I hope to live as long as possible now that I have had children as I want to see what happens to them and their children and their children's children

3!.I agreed with this 100% then did and article on people who had attempted to commit suicide!. I interview 60 people and 60 of those people once they had jumped, taken the pills whatever wished they hadn't!. 100% of the people AT THE time wished the hadn't done it!.
I am sad to say that of those 60 people I interviewed 9 have now succeeded!. That was only 3 years ago!.

Freedom of speech means just as much that you are able to say these thing as the comments that are said in response!.
I'm not sure if I believe in freedom of speech as there is too much grey area!. If am able to say that evey person is equal no matter them be gay, poor or socialist!. It means that someone is just as entitled to say that gays are sub-human, poor people are lazy and socialists are just immigrants!.
I wish that people were considerate and educated enough on others for it to work, but I'm just not sure if we are!.
I wish we were and I am glad that people think we are but for now I am a pessimistWww@QuestionHome@Com

You wrote from your heart here so yes there is freedom of speech but it depends on how you look at it!. You some poignant and very passionate thoughts about life!.

Life is life and is not a waste!. There would be no such homes for you to live in if people with caring hearts did not believe that!. Since you are living is it not possible that you can provide hope to someone living!? What if you are meant to be there to give meaning to the ones who have no one to give them life or hope or a smile or a word of cheer!. Perhaps they are missing you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Freedom is relative!. What is it that make you want to die!? Are you in physical or emotional pain!? I personally want to live much longer than sixty years though I understand that is not the case with all people!. I don't think doctors, in general, are very good at treating pain of any kind but there are people who are!. judging from what you say, I think that you need something to live for, instead of waiting endless years to die!. It is quite common for an individual to despair of ever enjoying life again but you could get a pleasant surprise!. I do hope so!. Probably the main ingredient for this is the right people, I wish you luck in meeting those people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I am 60 years old and I am very valuable!. You must find a purpose!. I babysit animals!. I am doing quite well!. I am disabled and still find something to do and be valuable to life!.

If I am talking in an Airport about a 'gun' you can be sure I will be hauled into security and searched!. Some of our freedoms of speech have altered do to circumstances in life!.

I do not wish to stay alive while I am in a suffering stage!. I have a living will and my daughters are nurses!. I have lung disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, acid reflux, and I am very hearing impaired!. Do not put me to sleep , yet!. I have something to do?Www@QuestionHome@Com

no!. freedom of speech is a mirage in this world!. Sometimes, you just cannot say whatever you want to say because everything has been classified under two categories- normalcy and insanity!. If I were to say that the moon is made of cheese (and considering that I have been granted freedom of speech by the constitution, I am perfectly entitled to say so), many would declare I have lost my marbles!. It’s ok to say such thing but only so far as a joke or a metaphor!.

As for you, freedom of speech is not the real issue, is it!? It is rather the freedom to choose within life and death!.

Www@QuestionHome@Com

1!. They should be granted the choice!.
It should not be made by others!.
2!. When you get there, you might just change your mind!.
( I'm over 60, and I intend to be around quite while yet!. -
Still can't wait to see what happens next!.)
3!. If you failed at so simple a thing,
you really just wanted the attention!.
As to free speech, you can still say just about anything that
comes into your head, just about anywhere!.
It's just that you're denied so much information that what
comes into your head is under rather tight control!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
