Try an experiment!. Write down all the meanings of the word "god" you can isolate!. Determine among them your own usage!. What does it mean to you!? Go deeper!. Do research!. Use the encyclopedia!. Look at related terms, such as 'anthropomorphic," pantheism, deism,
fideism, theism, animism, humanism, etc!. Study alternative religious views, such as Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism!. What about cosmology and cosmography!? What is the latest version of the big bang!? Lol, your question is one of the few things that atheists and fundie creationists can agree on--albeit for entirely different reasons!. The creationist thinks that his god snapped his fingers and *poof!* there was the universe, while we atheists think the big bang happened but without any need for gods!.

Asking what was "before" the big bang is a bit tricky, because both space and time originated at the big bang!. The BB wasn't an explosion of matter into space, it was an explosion of space itself; likewise for time!.

Oh, and the BB isn't really a matter of opinion; the evidence is 100% on the side of it having happened, and happening 13!.7 billion years ago!. (Not 6-10,000 years ago as the creationists believe, on nothing but faith!.)

As for the question of whether it was some god who originated the big bang, that's actually a testable hypothesis!. One can examine what a universe would look like if the BB were an entirely natural phenomenon, versus what it would look like if it were started by a supernatural phenomenon (i!.e!. a god), and then take a look at our actual universe and see which one it most closely represents!. And when one looks at all the evidence, it appears once again that the BB can be entirely accounted for by natural processes!.

its tempting to just place God as the creator of the Big Bang, and say, "look, well, i'll accept the scientific theory of the Big Bang, but god did it!"

same with evolution!.

doing this solves nothing!. you've just solved a problem with another problem!. sure, we don't know what caused the Big Bang, or why it happened!. but to posit an imaginary all-powerful entity as the cause is just raising the same exact problem that you had before!. now where did this all-powerful being come from!? how did IT start!?
