Basically what they have based their whole lives upon (values etc) has been a lie, and i think that they have sort of realised this at some point, and thats what makes them ultra defensive/agressive about their religion!.As if by refusing to see the things that others do, it will somehow *will* their god into existence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would like to come up with a deep philosophical answer to your rather profound question, but unfortunately, I cannot!. This is based entirely on my life's experience through observations and perceptions that have come to me solely at my own free will!. So call it BS, I call it like I see it!. At the risk of stereotyping any population group in its entirety, it is not only fair but it is unjust!. However, until a controlled experiment conducted by a credible resource has been performed, I shall continue to question the genuine, sincerity and hypocritical nature of those "religious people" you refer to!. I am aware of the guilty conscience and perceptions those who "preach their religious beliefs" onto those of the general public!. I feel they do this on the fact that literally, for the majority of their lives they have been brained washed into 'accepting" and "believing" the faith with no real conceptual facts to back up their supposed expertise on quoting their "Scriptures" and God-forbid you ask them to not only identify but translate a particular verse in the bible, they become glazed over in disbelief!. Not only that of the distrust they might fee of the religion they have worshiped for a good percentage of their lives, but they have not had the unfortunate opportunity (perhaps on several occasion) to form an educated decision and decide if they are going to join the uneducated, ill informed crowd that truly has "lost their voice" and and have allowed for the brainwashing to begin!. And even years into this experience, their brain is still wired, to question, challenge and not accept everything and anything that is flung its way like an ignorant piece of bureaucratic tangled web of lies, distrust and misconceptions ! It's a little bit of a stereotype, don't you think!? I never thought of the Dalai lama, Mother Theresa, Pope John Paul II or Ghandi as particularly angry people, but they're clearly passionate about their respective faiths,

Some religions are militant at their core, such as Islam!. Others are inherently pacifist, like the Quakers and Church of God, The Mormons, Catholics and mainline Protestants don't seem particularly angry by anything, though they are passionate about their faiths!.

I personally avoid discussions with anyone who has an evangelical agenda to "debate" my religion against theirs!. It's annoying!. especially since the underlying assumption is that they know the "secrets" of the Bible and that they can "trick" people into disavowing their faith and convert them to this new faith!. I have yet to be tricked by a Baptist or a Jehovah's Witness, and yet they persistently try!.

It's possible, too, that your "polite question" was worded in a less than discreet manner!. You may have been a little offensive without realizing it!. Since we don't know which question evoked this reaction, it may be hard to pinpoint where the conflict arose!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think its because of lose of purpose on their part!. People want everyone else to believe in their own kind of God , religion etc, but even though each religion teach love and goodness of life, they forget this original aim and go after fickle things like getting at those who do not go by their religious teaching, thus molding them into angry people (without they themselves knowing it)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Increasingly, as the world and it's people become more educated and sophisticated, they are rejecting the Bible and coming to the realization that it's stories are unbelievable and far fetched!.
Consequently, what for 2 millenia has been preached without question is now coming under scrutiny and believers are being asked to justify their beliefs, based on something more than mere faith!.
Unfortunately, that is not easily done so they are becoming very defensive as they are under attack from rational thinking people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

they aren't angry, just crazy!. they think they are right about everything!. they have the stupidest ideas!. my boyfriends parents are like that!. they own a damn book that says "HELP LORD! THE DEVIL WANTS ME FAT" now that is some BS!. and they think everytime some good happens to you, its the lord! but everytime something bad happens its the devil trying to posess you!. no i dont know but those people are crazy!. sorry i couldn't answer your question, i just felt like sharing this to everybodyWww@QuestionHome@Com

People eventually get frustrated after being repeatedly mocked and made fun of!. You try to rise above, but sometimes it gets to you!. If it truly was a simple question or observation, then maybe the person just has anger or insecurity issues that has nothing to do with their belief in God!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because they feel as if they're being threatened because their "faith" doesn't come from knowledge!. It's so superficial and thin that the slightest wind could blow it away!.
Sometimes people in general are so set in their ways because when they reach adulthood they realize they better have their minds made up about something or they're never going to figure out how to grow up!.

They are probably fed up with people asking them moronic questions, religion is a matter of personal choice, and they should be left alone to follow the dictates of their own beliefs!. Non believers have chosen their own path to follow, fine, they should stick to it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
