Foucault believed that we are ‘freer than we think we are’ politics and psychoanalytic thought have led us to restrict our freedoms, Foucault's rejection of the repression hypothesis was criticized by many due to the views on defining power (relating to men vs!. women) and homosexuality (as perversion), I left you 2 links here I believe they will be usefull for you!.
