Maturity is said to be a quality of selflessness, in addition to being able to take responsibility for your own life but more importantly that of others, a quality of being physically and psychologically independent, of a nature that has to do with a mental state involing stoicism and fortitude in times of hardship, and reserve and self control in times of prosperity!. It is generally defined as someone who has mastered the concept of self discipline, not discipline in the "I better do what they say" kind of sense, but discipline in the "I need to do this because its my responsibility, regardless of reward" kind of sense!. Defined in that manner, it also means a quality of delaying gratification, or even being able to sacrifice it outright in favor of what is important!.
