But don't you feel maybe life is a little pointless!. You work your butt off, then die and it all means nothing!. Think of an ant, scurrying around, if it died or never existed, how would it change the world!? The sun was shining and it was a beautiful day!. Off in the distance he could see a person going back and forth between the surf's edge and and the beach!. Back and forth this person went!. As the man approached he could see that there were hundreds of starfish stranded on the sand as the result of the natural action of the tide!. The man was stuck by the the apparent futility of the task!. There were far too many starfish!. Many of them were sure to perish!. As he approached the person continued the task of picking up starfish one by one and throwing them into the surf!. As he came up to the person he said, "You must be crazy!. There are thousands of miles of beach covered with starfish!. You can't possibly make a difference!." The person looked at the man!. He then stooped down and pick up one more starfish and threw it back into the ocean!. He turned back to the man and said, "It sure made a difference to that one!" It's true, most of us will never make a difference in the big scheme of things, but we do make a difference on a one-to-one basis!. There are people that we matter to, for whom our existence matters!. To me, that's what gives life purpose!. Maybe in the grand scheme of things human life will not mean a whole lot to the earth since it has been around for 4!.5 billion years but make it life mean something to you and for your friends and family!.Www@QuestionHome@Com With no afterlife, it would seem so, but I just couldn't imagine the world ending when you die, having it just go black and fade away, there has to be something there!. But even without the afterlife, it is not pointless, as long as the people on Earth remember you and who you were, your thoughts, your personality, and your teachings!. The fundamental question of philosophy all comes down to, is life worth living, ( not something the powers that be want you to ask, cause they fear your conclusion may be no, so they will always tell you the answer is yes, yes nothing but yes, but thats another story) When asking this question, I usally find what people are really asking is what has value in this life that I should even bother doing anything!. Most stumble at the nothing lasts forever point, if i build a house over time it will crumble, if you have friends they will die, I will die, so whats the point if it doesn't last !? If i do something great, i want people to remember me, but the people that remember me one day shall too be gone, etc etc To answer this is to ask, is something of value if it only lasts forever !? If the answer is no, then enjoy all this world has to offer,with all its perishables, but if you some one who kinda gets stuck on the whole whats the point it won't last, well your kinda out of luck since everything in the universe will one day perish ( even the sun in a few billions years will be no more) ( yes even so called renewable solar power ain't so renewable for ever, fricking tree huggers,!.!.!.!.!.ok back to the subject So if this is the direction your heading i suggest you find something that is everlasting!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. or go around with the be happy, life is beautfil, work hard pay taxes and do what your told, think what we want you to think, But for some one who actually starts to ask this kind of question and wants to reason on it, and not just have feel good retoric, I would find that to be such a waste!. For example, nature lets say has a way of flooding parts of a country, but then you, an inventor, creates a system to stop the flood water/reroute it and use excess water to water the country side that may be going through a drought!. But for most of your life you should try to be happy and busy!.
