Yes it is ironic, it is a misguided attempt to demonise the enemy!. There are better terms; Stupid, Misguided, evil perhaps, but cowardly is not really appropriate, unless you accept that the bombers really have bought totally into the martyr idea, in which case it could be argued that they believe they are only going to have an instant and painless death and go straight to paradise!. If you have 100% faith in that idea, then perhaps not much physical courage is called for!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

My friend not only politicians think that suicide bombings is a coward act!.Most of us think the same!.Each has a reason why they do it but if one is walking in wisdom's way and has been content to hold one's peace no one can drive himself insane to do like suicide bombers act!.
That every act is crowned with good!.We think that if that is we call courageous act by killing youself but not thinking about mercy to others and seek for salvation is really an act of hopelesness, injustice,desperation and ignorance!.I think it's not a good deal of courage!.There will be no reconcilliation if this injustice prevails

This unfortunately is not an answer, but a comment on a previous answer by Cheskin (friendly Japanese), not all westerners are ignorant of the concept of different cultures!. During WWII a photograph of a Japanese officer beheading an Australian pilot was used by the allies as propaganda " showing the barbarity of the Japanese soldier", but what us westerners weren't told at the time, kinda ruin the propaganda, was that beheading was the highest honour a Japanese soldier could give to a condemned enemy, not barbaric at all!.
Back to the question, perhaps the term cowardly refers to the fact that suicide bombers act subversively, and not in an 'open' act of war!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most suicide bombers, in my book,are not courageous by any stretch of the imagination!. Because they do their deed in areas full of innocent people, they are nothing but mass murderers, and the "cowardly" comes in because they KNOW these innocent people will die, too, and they are too cowardly to stand trial for their actions!. To the Muslims, this current war in Iraq is a holy war, and the more people they kill trying to get to the "evil Americans", the better afterlife they will have--virgins or not!.
These suicide bombers are just the same as the kamikaze pilots the Japanese used in World War 2--they were nothing but suicide "dive bombers" who would purposely crash their planes into our Navy ships, trying to kill as many Americans as they could, all in the name of the Emperor of Japan!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This is politician`s way of bragging that if these terrorists come out in the open they can crush them!. These politicians do not realise that the very emergence of suicide bombers in the world is their own creation!. They let the genie out of the bottle!.

It was not difficult for people to sort of issues on one to one basis!. If it didnot happen the community came into the picture and solved the issues!. Then society , the country etc were available to sort out!.
Enter politics and power hungry people and you have the best combination to antogonise the population !. Today the politicians the world over with their money power control the world!. No one has the power to fight them in the open!. So many many of us simply go into the sidelines and discuss politcs and reforms in our sitting rooms far rremoved from the battlegorund !. Some people , mostly misguided people who have lost out their families and wealth to the politiciams turm against them and the only way they take revenge is by killing themselves taking along with them a few others !. exactly!. when our japanese ancestors went Kamikaze against the US navy in pearl harbor, it took doggdang amount of courage!. to the receiving end it will be taken as act of insanity but the other receiving end of exploitaition and violence, it's the act of desperate last resort!.

go figure!. israelis are bombing palestinians day and night over residential areas through air bombing!. watch al jazeera and you'll see a 5 year-old child with a headless body, etc!. US army call it surgical bombing yet they again bomb over residential areas in Iraq!. just like they did in tokyo and other major cities in japan!. westerners might not know it but chunk of people died burning for ages!. and these deaths were before we got nuked!. (imagine your 1st born son being cooked in a microwave!. yes that's right!. this though process is called imagination and empathy!. westeners should understand that there always at least two views in any given matter!. we should always question our view)

It is cowardly to not take responsibility for your actions - suicide bombers take a very serious action - they choose to take this action the lives they take with them have no choice - they are not around to take responsibility and face the consequences of their actions afterwards!.
