Question: What are the top ten reasons Disney Movies have corrupted the youth of America!?
My friend and I are having a little philosophical debate (for fun of course) and I have taken the side that Disney Films establish racism, fanatic consumerism, and false hope into child minds across the nation!. While this is strictly for arguments sake (I don't HATE Disney) I would like some real good examples to stick to him, whether it be subliminal messages, blatant messages, or the corruption behind the Disney corporation!.

Now understandably, not everyone will agree with the statement that Disney movies are bad!. Having said that, if you disagree with me, please don't bother to write an answer!.

I want serious effort, I'm looking for something novel and creative!.

The most thoroughly researched list will get best answer!.

Happy hunting!Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's late, I'm tired but I'll try to do this some quick justice!.

It's fair to say that the "Disnification" of our civilization has done no good thing , not just to kids but to many adults who grew up on that crap!.

It sets up a whole host of totally artificial and unrealistic set of values and presumptions which simply don't exist!.

I consider it a wide spectrum form of infantilism - broadly speaking - one of the most grievous crimes of "Disnification" is that is seeks to over simplify life and matters of life into trite , simplistic and uncomplicated concepts which again - disadvantages us as adults and as a society to the point where most people can only process short bursts of easily digested information, This is also not exclusively Disney's fault but they were a major contributor to setting the stage for such a condition!.

Examples include

1!. Princess / Prince Charming - doesn't exist, and if they do , it's not particularly likely you will be meeting them!.

2!. "We are always right", the "other guy" is always wrong!. As the stories are almost universally written from the perspective of the "heroic" person, this is a subtle but incredibly destructive and dangerous ideology when framed in the constrained heros' are always good, villains are always evil , over-simplification, into which we frame our reality, since it diminishes our ability to distinguish when we ARE in fact wrong about something!.

3!. They don't seem to terribly interested in "details", a different problem comes when it gets to the overall body of work , which is not something that really promotes or induces people to creativity or thoughtfulness!. Some programs do EXACTLY THAT, consider PBS's Sesame Street or Carl Sagan's Cosmos, both programs were conceived around the idea of inspiring viewers to either learn , strive to educate themselves or be inspired by the awe in the universe around us!. Disney almost constitutes a thought-free experience!.

4!. The broad set of values - of the greater Disney empire, that being good looking , young , and not terribly bright is an ideal!. Being smart, old, or "shown to be working" is not desirable and if not exactly shown as bad, is certainly not something cool people do, it's just as powerful and negative for a society to set up / reinforce such a poor ethic regarding work and older people!.

I've always found Little Stewie from Family Guy summed it up pretty well, when he became inadvertently enthralled with "The Teletubbies"

I only have time to think of one thing, but the uncritical reinforcement of gender roles is ridiculous in Disney films!. Think of the absent father figure in Bambi, the domesticity of Snow White, the general irrelevance of Cinderella until she meets the Prince, the sexy exoticism of Pocahontas (not to mention Native American stereotypes), and the fact that the Little Mermaid must give up EVERYTHING to get married (marriage=happy, remember!? girls don't need a life of their own)!.

Start there and everything starts to pile up!. They've been much, much better in recent years (Brother Bear, for example), but they tend to overly distil everything they touch!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

the main problem i have with disney movies is that they helped spawn legions of furries with their legion of animated anthropomorphic characters!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
