Question: For one to succeed must another suffer!?
what do you think of the quote!? good or bad!? is it logical!? "for one to succeed another must suffer"Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
suffer temporarily maybe!.!.

Although in the end everyone has their own path and we learn a lot more from our failures then our successes so the one who suffers might embrace it and be more sucessful in the end while the winner learns nothing and doesn't move forward!.

For example some of the more dorky undeveloped/younger looking people in high school who when they grew up and developed nicely physically tend to be better at charming the opposite sex /whoever they are interested in because they had to learn how to!. Sorry to generalize! but this happens!.

Or people had nothing come to them easily so they learned how to work for it and become sucessful later on!.

so yes!.!. suffering but only temporary!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on what you mean by "succeed!." If by "succeed" you mean to do better than those around you, then I would say "suffering" isn't necessarily entailed but that they will obviously have less, or be worth less or whatever the subject requires!. If by "succeed" you mean survive in health or some other such fairly decent standard then no, someone else doesn't need to suffer for you to achieve it!.

My thoughts on the quote!? Well, it's okay!. When I first read it I agreed with it!. It just doesn't stand up to any inspection whatsoever!. Actually, most quotes or sayings don't!. So in that right I would have to say it is an excelled statement/quote/saying/etc!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

If said success is based on a single point that only one person can occupy then yes others will have to fail!. But then wouldn't this success be based on greed!?

If said success is a sense of accomplishment not based on a single ultimate achievement, the the quote is wrong because there would only be 1 successful person alive today!. What is your measure of success!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is not enough to succeed!. Others must fail!.
Gore Vidal

It's sad that someone would actually think this way, but so many do!. I too am guilty of this kind of thinking at times in my life!. I try wishing everyone success and happiness always, now!. Not so much when I was younger, and probably more ambitious!.

The quote is slightly flawed, That's because it says that only one must succed while another suffers, if this is so then half of the world must suffer and half must succed!. But in real life it is many that succed or live well while a few others suffer, it is like a sacrifice!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

of course not!. It's a bad, negative quote that isn't even logical!.!.!. dude, think about it!. I want to get rid of world hunger!. I fundraise, people give me money (thus making them happy that they're doing a good deed), I give poor people food (making them happy), and I'm happy because I accomplished my dream!.!. everyone's happy aren't they!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Bad!. Sorry it just doesn't hold true!. What if the goal was to feed a homeless person!? Who suffers!? I get what you mean but you need to reword the phrase!. Your quote suggests that people only want to succeed for their own benefits!. Not entirely true!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's a poor quote, for one to succeed others must benefit!. Others must be served in order for one to succeed!.
What you've quoted sounds like a Machiavellian attitude, the ends do not justify the means!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The goal is a gold medal, there is only 1 gold medal so all the athletes except one will be disappointed at the result of the race!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it's true!. If two people are going after the same thing, and only one can have it, then one of them will have to fail!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The problem with that quote is too many people believe it to be trueWww@QuestionHome@Com

It assumes life is a zero sum game!. I don't think it is personally!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
