I don't get on Yahoo Answers much!.

I answered your other question about this, but I'd like to give a little more detail!.

Wikipedia reads "AI research uses tools and insights from many fields, including !.!.!.!. philosophy"

Philosophy is a subject that most people feel deals with abstract concepts and is typically very subjective!. Many people have their own philosophies!. So what then makes one philosopher recognized for his or her philosophies and someone else not recognized!? I believe that he has to do with the publics interest in the idea!. Although there has been some interest in AI, most AI applications have limited practicality!. There is also a lot we don't know about strong AI since it hasn't be created yet!. Because of this lack of understanding, I feel that it has a strong place in Philosophy and always will!.

One of the most interesting areas is determining what AI really means!. We might consider a chess program to have a certain level of intelligence, but it is confined to game of chess!. How will we know when we have achieved human like AI!? Some people would say that they can't tell you what it is, but they know it when they see it!. Alan Turing is considered the father of AI, and it the person that coined the phrase Artificial Intelligence!. He suggested that if during a chat session, a group of people aren't able to accurately distinguish between a person they are chatting with and a computer, that is the day when strong AI will be created!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
