It's an idiom, I suppose & this one is said a little different way here in my country: If you give him a place to sit, he would demand to have a place to sleep!. This is originated from some over-conscious guys who had no mercy in their heart!. In fact, a person was in need of a bed probably; when he requested for a shelter, the so-called kindhearted (I doubt!) allowed him 'one inch' or a 'chair' to sit!. As the so-called person was a little kind enough, so the shelter-asking guy took a chance, whether the person allowed him to get the shelter he was in real need!. But, well, you know, what the kindhearted(!) person could think of! I think, if you're unable to help a guy fully, tell that at first & then try to provide that guy other way!. You were not supposed to say later that an inch-seeker demanded a mile or so & so!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would say it's because as much as we say we wan't to be happy, we want what we want, more!. Like with anything else, it takes a balanced mind to not take advantage of anything!.!.!.but we always blame that which is open and vunerable!. It's just the flaw in man kind!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
