Question: Do spellings/grammar show who you are!?
it ticks me off when people say you're dumb when you just want to use shortcuts or slangs, though you can still understand their messages!. I mean come on! it isn't serious as a writing prompt in school, this is like the internet people!!!!

those spelling freaks don't know #*$^ about you and start saying things like " stay in school"!. are they grumpy because of their sad childhood!?

need some opinionsWww@QuestionHome@Com

I do my best to spell correctly and use good grammar so I my questions seem better and so people can read my answer better!. But I too, am annoyed by the spelling freaks such as the one your talking about!. Your allowed to write whatever you want, whether It's neat and tidy, correct but with slang, readable with some errors, but i guess lots of errors and all caps is pretty annoying!. Hope no one likes that bothers you again, bye!Www@QuestionHome@Com

They don't show who you are but show your level of intelligence or lack of!. If you use a lot of text abbreviations to my mind it shows that you are dumb and or lazy!. I think it shows a sloppy attitude!. People should use correct spelling, and use grammar correctly!. Trying to read things is more difficult if the person hasn't used any grammar!. Long rambling sentences all running into one another!.!.!. I am NOT grumpy and did NOT have a sad childhood!. I just think people shouldn't be sloppy or lazy!. If you can't be arsed to write a full sentence, then don't bother to write anything at all! Www@QuestionHome@Com

I have just answered another question from someone wondering why they are not getting many job interviews, despite sending out lots of CVs!. Looking at the spelling from the question, I am not surprised!
If you are an Employer with fifteen CVs in front of you, would you use spelling and grammar to weed out the applicants!? Yes, you would!. It's a competitive environment and if you knowingly hamper your own chances of success, you only have yourself to blame!.
Who is impressed by bad spelling!? No one!.
Don't ignore what others are saying to you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Improper spelling and grammar gives off the impression that you are either too lazy to write English correctly or that you didn't learn in the first place, both of which are unpleasant associations!.

No, grammar does not give you an idea of who people are!. However, even with your grammar/spelling mistakes, I can tell that you are offended by the people who call you out on it!. Word choice gives an idea of your personality, and grammar gives an idea of the effort you put in!. Or the intelligence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

They show how much care you take with the missives that go out in your name!. It isn't that you are dumb, it's just the level of care that you take so that people know you care enough to correct and submit things that have been checked for errors!.

Sometimes messages contain so many of those "shortcuts" that they are indecipherable!!!Www@QuestionHome@Com

when it comes to posting to forums, typing email, or chatting online, capitalization means very little and works best for emphasis!. grammar, punctuation, and spelling are like traffic signals on streets; without them, there would be utter chaos!.

i can tell you, as an employer, that seeing common words misspelled, place names misspelled, and/or atrocious grammar/punctuation (ie separating a subject and verb with a comma, or worse) on an application or resumé causes me to move on to the next one without a second glance!.

vocabulary, now that's a great topic!. i worked fast-food through high school and just over half the time i was in college!. often, i was asked (by other employees and customers) to explain some of the words i would use; further, i had the last word on proper spelling!. i take pride in my verbal repertoire, it causes me to be very memorable (a helpful characteristic in my field) and demands respect in more places than not!. i've been this way almost my entire life, my sixth grade teacher described me as having "an above average vocabulary that smothers"!.

i feel that i have sufficiently addressed your concern, though there is much more i would like to add!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

depends on why you are writing!. Texting or IM might be fine for abbreviations and conversations with friends, but if you want to succeed in school, college or the corporate world, you MUST know how to write correctly!.
I am originally from Germany where school was very strict, I hated it, was never good at german language arts, but I learned the english language easily!. I have been studying for many years and could not have succeeded if I didn't know how to write a complete sentence,Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't think it's strictly a matter of intelligence!. But I hate the look of improper grammar and too many abbreviations!.!.!.proper spelling and grammar is so much easier to read!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
