A virtue, for Aristotle, is identified and defined by the "Golden Mean" of two vices as determined by "phronesis" (practical wisdom)!.
The famous example is of courage!. Courage is the practical medium between the 'vice of excess' ie!. rashness and the 'vice of deficiency' ie!. cowardice!.
Aristotle, I think, would say that chivalry is a virtue on account of it lying safely between the two vices of rudeness (deficiency) and patronizing (excess)!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
