No!.
But patriotism is usually easily linked to fascism such as Stalin, Hitler and Mussolini!. That's not to suggest that patriotism isn't also good for a country though!. I mean, why wouldn't you "obey" if your country is right!? It seems just as silly to blindly rebel just as it is to blindly submit!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah there would be!. In the World Wars, the Russians would shoot their own soldiers if they retreated!. They also shared a gun between two people and food and money was almost non-existent!. They were forced to fight for the country they did not love or die!. And some did die for being 'unpatriotic'!. Then again, if there was no patriotism, there wouldn't be a large diversity of various types of advancements and we probably wouldn't be even close to where we are technologically or scientifically now!. People somewhat need a race sometimes whether they realize it or not!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

World Wars are the macro example of interpersonal conflicts!. Without patriotism there would still be world wars for many reasons!. In many wars people are more or less made to fight!. YOu do not have to be a patriot to be a soldier, one might have just joined due to poverty, criminal record, ignorance, glory(the old lie, look at the poem by Wilfred Owen, Dulce Et Decorum Est Pro Patria Mori)
War is endemic to human nature, perhaps not yours, but as a whole we are a war like species!. Imagine a country being invaded for say reasons of greed or racism on one side, of course the other side would defend their home, not for patriotism but for pragmatism!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Most wars are caused by the greed of politicians and rulers or as in the past,to enforce their religion on to others!.
In the past and in the present, most of the armed forces did not and do not have a choice, they follow orders which are initially given by people who have a very remote chance of being killed or injured by enemy action!. The penalty for the direct disobeying of an order during a war is often death or imprisonment in any army in any country!.
The current recruiting crisis in the U!.K!. is a direct result of people thinking to themselves "Am I defending my country"
The answer is usually no!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I suppose that the only way you would not have an aspect of patriotism would be if there were no countries to be patriotic to!. Even still, fans of sports teams show a sort of patriotism to their team, so you don't really need countries!.

American soldiers all love their country, no doubt about that, but they don't just fight for that reason!. They also fight so that we can all be free, and so they have a place to live when they are done fighting for it!.

I would say that Patriotism does not turn you into a "loyal machine"!. I would say that if you are patriotic you choose to be loyal, you are not forced to be as in other countries!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

People fought before there were nations, which really did not come into existence till the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries!. You might fight out of personal loyalty to the guy who paid your wages, or out of ideological reasons, like the guys who went of to fight Franco, or for religious reasons, like the guys who went to defend the Bosnians!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

yes, wars are not about love of country or patriotism, wars are about money plain and simple!.
america was in a depression and ww2 pulled us out of it!.

That would certainly help, but you would have to eliminate all dogmas to have a more peaceful world, patriotism, nationalism, racial pride, religion, racism, etc!.

also loving your country is different from patriotism and nationalism!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Patriotism has so many forms and definitions that I think it has been replaced by 'protection of a nation's interests'!. But that and all the other words don't explain why in hell we're still in a 7-year war in !.!. where is it!? !.!. Iraq!.

OH,yeah !.!.!.!. dumb-assedness!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Capitalism NEEDS wars to continue!. Those at the top know this very well, and they use anything to keep them going!. Race, religion and boundary disputes tend to be the favoured reasons!. The mass media ensures that the masses never become aware of this fact!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Remember that most of the people who end up fighting these wars do so only because they are told if they do not, they will suffer, or their families will suffer, some are even threatened with execution - doesn't sound much like patriotism does it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

there would be war, because the point is not just about patrotism but about the human nature which forces us to be selfish and ignore the pain of others and hate others who are in different ideology!.So we arm,in the name of race,religion!.!.!.!.and we kill each other!. pathetic!Www@QuestionHome@Com
