Question: If modal realism is true, then would there not be a "real" possible world in which God exists!?
Modal realism is the philosophical thesis that claims all possible worlds are as real as our own!. This philosophical thesis is associated primarily with David Lewis who robustly defended this idea in a full-length treatment of modal realism that he authored!. Lewis has been interpreted as saying--and maybe he did say--that there are no impossible worlds!. Therefore, possible worlds are irreducible entities and all worlds seem possible and as real as our world!. If Lewis is correct, however, would it not seem that there is a real possible world in which God exists!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

i don't think it necessarily follows that one of those possibilities could have a god in it, because the idea of god suggests that god exists before any of those possibilities exist, and would need to be personally responsible for every single one of those infinite possibilities, and so be a necessary component of every possibility not just some of them!.

this is like a multiverse theory but god as defined by the bible given what we now know about the universe must exist outside of universe and not within it, since he would have needed to create it, therefore would not be subject to a multiverse theory as a possibility within them!.

but i think his theory can't be possible in one sense and must be in another!. if there was a multiverse, then technically there would just be one universe which would be a conglomeration of many multiverses, which would be separated by nothingness!. and nothingness is a logical impossibility!. in another sense it is exactly that way, but one universe, one set of laws of physics, and a basically infinite number of possibilities given those laws, in that our universe is so vast, like galaxies and solar systems separated by the vastness of space!.

but truly i think that everything possible does happen but there is only one possibility of outcome of the universe given the specific initial state !. like for every spot you drop a ball on a hill it will roll down in every possible way that it can, but given the terrain, the environment, and the ball, there is only one of those, so it only rolls down one way!.

but even today, some scientists don't believe that necessarily, some still believe the multi-verse can and must be possible, because of seemingly random events at the quantum level, and other features of quantum mechanics!. but personally i don't think those events are random, but are simply not as yet completely understood, and i don't think things like heisenberg uncertainty principle indicate this either!. but definitely a hell of a lot of strange things occur at the quantum level, things that seem impossible in terms of matter at our level, such as one thing existing in 2 places at once and weird stuff like that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Believe nothing just because a so-called wise person said it!.

Believe nothing just because a belief is generally held!.

Believe nothing just because it is said in ancient books!.

Believe nothing just because it is said to be of divine origin!.

Believe nothing just because someone else believes it!.

Believe only what you yourself test and judge to be true

Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood!.

I agree with the other poster, if you are saying ALL possible worlds exist, then how can there be a question that everything conceivable, including god, must exist!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

This seems stupid!. Have you not just answered your own question!? If all worlds are possible and all possibilities exist then it would have to!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
