4!. Eric Clapton
5!. Rolling Stones
6!. Lynard Skynard
7!. Pink Floyd
8!. Aerosmith

10!. Pink Floyd/The Who [tie =)]

What do you think!?

I would have added Jimi Hendrix, but he didn't wright a lot of his songs!. And the Beatles, but I found them more as forerunners to rock than as rock themselves!.

Some of these are NOT my personal favorites, but I was thinking in lines of your train of thought here!. Personally I would have picked Meatloaf over Jim Morrison as the American Poet, but I didn't give him that title, America did long before I could even understand his words!. And I loved CCR and Skynard over the Stones!. And I was never crazy about U2, but the world was!. But I was trying to think on the whole!. Oh, and they are in no particular order!.

Dylan, oh yes, for all reasons

Jimi Hendrix, didn't matter that he didnt write most of his own music, he was a powerful force and extremely influential

The Beatles, none of them would be on this list without them, hard for us to understand these days, but they were the influential force that started it all

The Doors & Morrison, the American Poet

The Stones, just cuz they have to be there

Zeppelin

Pink Floyd

Queen, just cuz I loved them dearly, nothing like them since

Black Sabbath, Metal

U2, fathers of Modern Rock, everything has sounded like them since

That was ten!. But!.!.!.!.!.!.

Elvis, I know you didnt want to hear that, but he mixed Rock-a-Billy with Blues, and Country and became a God!.

There was NO genre before Elvis!.

EDIT
A lot of people will also say The Who!. They ARE on most of the Top 10 lists!.
And I agree with Chuck Berry, even Little Richard!. How about Debra Harry and Blondie, they certainly started a whole new craze!. Or the Grateful Dead!? Or the Beach Boys!? The Clash!? Nirvana!? Janis Joplin and the Big Brother Holding Company!? The Ramones!?
There is just so many different type of rock now available to us, and so many contributions it's hard to come up with the "perfect" list!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
