why do we need criteria for judging art!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

There may not be specific guidelines for what makes art, art but to even suggest something is art we as humans need logical, concrete method that gives us guidelines to give us an idea what to look for!. And when you find it, then to judge if its great or drab art!. Art is art, but a great artist will intwine elements never used together in a new way expressing emotions, philosophies, and propose new questions!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Judging art will always be subjective!. Two critics will rarely agree entirely!. But in the absence of some guidelines, we are left only with "do you like it!?" Informed criticism should include some knowledge of art history and techniques, an awareness of where the artist's work fits within current trends, and a sufficient familiarityty with the artist's body of work to have some understanding of his/her point of view!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because everything classified, perceived, believed, presented,
passed off, advertised, delivered and treated as art isn't
necessarily art!. Some things certain individuals may consider
to be art may actually be pornography; or hate speech; or
violence and/or murder!. Therefore, there must be guidelines
and criteria!. That's the best explanation I can hammer out at this
point!.

We may not, but then you will do so "at your peril"!.
For, we dont "have" criteria at all! We are GIVEN criteria;by our teachers, our idols, our siblings and our parents/guardians!.
Everywhere we look we are given criteria!.
In encyclopedias,in history books and even in fiction-books too(this therefore should include all newspapers)!.In maps and of course,in art works OF ALL KINDS!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know why some believe we need a criteria!. Since art is subjective and what is considered art varies from person to person!. So I would have to say we should not try to put criteria to it, because it is too difficult and may lead to unjust ridiculeWww@QuestionHome@Com

Their is a certain standard that one must meet in order to actually consider your workpiece art!.
