Sometime we can have a very high level of certainty as to whether someone is lying or not, depending on how much information we have and how intelligently we use that information!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

One of my professors, who was brilliant, had two PhDs, one in psychology, was able to tell right away when someone was lying, and he would say "you can always tell when someone is lying!."

I don't recall him mentioning the subject of reading facial expressions, but this is an area where there is much known and it is pertinent to this question, but I have not studied that in detail!. Some people can become very good at reading facial expressions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You may want to look into the science of intonation, heart rate studies, perspiration studies, and all the other things mentioned in the other answers because if you combine all the theories and ideas, the more likely you will be able to tell if someone is lying, but I don't really know if you can be sure about anything that goes on in another human's mind!. =PWww@QuestionHome@Com

Some ppl live the lie itself so you can never know if he is a liar or not even if you put him through the lying detector
