I will try to actually answer your question unlike the other feeble attempts which have drawn no stable explanation!. Although there is no way for me to go back in time and trace the origins of morality, I would believe that these morals come from the rulers themselves to rule the weak as a way of keeping order in the kingdom!. If I tell my servants killing is wrong!.!.!. and they are foolish enough to believe me, then they will not kill me when I oppress them and they will not kill each other for land!.!.!. making it easier for society as a whole to function!. Aristotle defined "the good" as whatever was good for the species!. That makes it objective, but contextual, based on the needs of the species!. Only man has the need for ethics concretized in law!. Animals may have some sense of right and wrong, but "born to be wild" only gets them killed and no judge and jury is going to say it was wrong for the anteater to eat the ants; but they will say it was wrong for Jeffery Dahmer to eat those boys!.

As society developed, so did the pressure to go by its standards!. I guess it's really based on the "do unto others as you would have done unto you" phrase!. For example, if you raised yourself in a cave, no one would have ever told you to be civil and watch what you say and do to people!. You would have no conscience!.

So to really answer your question, I'm not exactly sure where "right and wrong" originated, or where the line is!. Personally, I think it goes back as far as the Ten Commandments or even when the world was so screwed up it had to be flooded (before that, people did whatever they wanted!) But nowadays, it's just the morals we're raised with!.

What often appears as "morals" is in actuality "practical"!. For example "thou shalt not commit adultery"!. "don't covet" "don't gossip" etc!. Not only could one get shot but fooling with the neighbor's wife breeds discord in the community!. Morality is necessary for the maintenance of civilization!.

I spent my teenage years as a motorcycle street racer!. I understand that there is a time and place for being wild!. But these things must be done wisely, lest one end up in jail, mangled or otherwise mess up your life!.
