Psychology is the study of the human mind, and how the individual takes in information and how the brain analyzes it!.
Sociology is the study of human interaction; fads, cliques, friendship, families, how society runs and how relationships impact it!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Simple answer in a nutshell is:

Psychology focuses on studying the person and what makes him tick!.
Sociology focuses on the group and what makes the group tick!.

A sociologist would study why is there a higher incidence of alcoholism in many Native Americans!?

Everyone here has given straight forward answer about psychology versus sociology!.

Psychology takes a more internal perspective of an individual!. It is focused on why individuals do the things they do based upon their personality, environment, genetics, etc!. It is focused on the human mind!. Look at psychology as an individual perspective!. A psychologist would work in a one on one setting with an individual to help them through a difficult time in their life!.

Sociology takes an external perspective and thinks in terms of the "group"!. Sociology examines groups, nations, communities, culture, etc!. Look at sociology as a group perspective!. A sociologist would help the group (say family) to help them all through a difficult time in their situation!.

There is also something called Social Psychology which is the study of how people and group interact!. Social Psychology looks at both the individual and group in their analysis!. There is a higher number of Social Psychologists that are Sociologists!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sociology has a broad focus on human nature, while Psychology has a narrower focus, as even social Psychology is focused most on individual interaction within a group, rather than an analysis of the whole group as is the emphasis in Sociology!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
