All kidding aside, it's not an immediate straightforward answer!.

Although you might not guess it reading the Yahoo boards, Philosophy requires a person to apply the reason to the problem at hand!. In a certain sense, it is "heartless!." You aren't supposed to care whether or not you like the conclusions you reach!.

However, in a certain sense, this is not heartless!. By having a set of rules that you can apply to solve problems in an orderly, noncontradictory manner, a sense of hope emerges!. By living a life without goals that are in conflict with one another, you can find peace and fulfillment!. In this sense, the *use* of philosophy in general is uplifting and, sometimes, exciting, even if the actual *methods* of philosophy don't rely on emotion!.

Think of it like reading a book: each word and chapter just conveys pieces of information, but your overall sense of the story can bring pleasure, relaxation, or motivation!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yes some do choose the path of 'internal authority' it is a dangerous path if you walk it unprepared though, leads you to all sorts of emotive decisions when a metaphysical one is averagely of far higher value!.

A mix of internal and exteranl authorites is best to create the most positive effect!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

The Heart is just a pump!. So what do you mean by it in your question!? Do you mean emotions!? If so, philosophy only examines emotions as part of things like decision making etc!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

frankly I think philosophy has very little to do with science!.!.!. and most philosophers are just people trying to solve their little (love / hate) problems with the world!.!.!. by putting them into wonderful sounding words!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
