Well, Sir Belmont IV, I would rather have a smaller government in America because obviously the larger government in America has led us to this sorry state of affairs!.

I am not certain that more capitalism or socialism is the answer!. It appears to me that we need to go back to the constitution and remember that we are a republic, not a democracy, and that the idea of one individual - one vote - with true representation of the people is the desired end; not endless and blood sucking bureaucracy, ignoring the will of the people and class struggle!.

Thank you for asking!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Smaller government because as an American taxpayer I resent being taxed for too much social programs for irresponsible people!. I must admit that as a conservative I am also a moderate because I don't mind my tax dollars giving out a hand in an emergency and to educate people!. I believe that helping to ecucate people makes them responsible taxpaying citizens!. I am in favor of the welfare system paying for anyone that wants sterilization on request!. I think the welfare system should give women a norplant or the birth control shot if they have a child on welfare and help her get an education and help with child care so she can go take a vocational course and be able to get off the welfare!. I guess that makes me a semi liberal! I consider myself a conservative but not cruel!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Of course, nearly everyone when asked will say they want smaller, not larger gov't!. But then ask people what they think gov't should be doing that it's currently not, and you'll get a different picture!. People understand that big govt's are not good, but they also want a gov't that benefits them personally and furthers their agendas!. So most peoples' desire for gov't is, "I want gov't to do everything _I_ want it to do, but nothing that _you_ want it to do (unless it's something I also want)!."

Of course, the end result of a gov't that tries to be all things to all people, is a cancerous behemoth!. Our gov't is already unsustainably large, with an estimated $60-90 TRILLION in future liabilities!. These are bills that will have to be paid, and does not include any new programs or expansions of current ones that may (or rather, will) occur!. Most of this is Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid, with sizable chunks also going to defense and interest payments on the national debt!.

Given the fact that no politician wants to do or even say anything about this looming catastrophe, in about 40-50 years the U!.S!. gov't is going to follow in the footsteps of the USSR and implode, dragging the rest of the economy down with it into ruin!. Many of the world's other major countries, like Europe, will probably fall sooner owing to their greater tax burdens and social/welfare spending!. Many of the world's third-world countries will probably keep right on being chronically impoverished, but at least they'll have lots of company!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd rather have *better* government, not smaller or larger!. But if I must choose, I'd want government smaller when it comes to my personal life, and larger when it comes to the economy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would just like to have a better government that put the welfare of all the people ahead of the welfare of the rich and powerful!. I don't care what you call it, or what size it is!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Our founding fathers were for small government!. I'll telll you what I'm for, I'm for following our rule of law, the constitution where we have a government that is for the people by the people!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
