Question: Was the transition smooth, from primitive to philosophical!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
There wasn't a transition!. Philosophy was an exception to looking at the world primitively!. It developed concurrently with the prevailing mental state at the time!.

There is still a strong, vestigial and primitive outlook persisting today!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

it's is difficult to know!. There could be many missing manuscripts!.

also, there are many societies that have engaged in philosophical investigation; not just the Western!. Some go much further back than the Western!. Up to at least 4,000 yrs as far as we know!. We'd call that primitive and philosophical at the same time!.

also, philosophy at one time encompassed science and religion!. Even so called primitive societies engaged in religion!. That could be called philosophical thinking!.

Besides, how you define "smooth" is unknown here!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

The road from Primitive to Philosophical is never a smooth one, but one well worth walking!. A whole new world awaits, its up ahead over the hills and down through the valleys!. Just ahead a full moon is up to light your way!. Keep walking maybe you will find what you are looking for just over the next horizon!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd guess not!. Man's mind had to evolve to fully understand his decisions and their consequences, and situations where leisure time was available to make these connections had to be created!. Man's mind also had to evolve to think of higher ideas, and I would guess nature had to weed out the stupid from the intelligent for man to even be able to accept the idea of philosophy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

No!.

Getting your point across used to mean the one on the end of a stick!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
