Nostalgia is caused by an unappeased yearning to return to something!. In fact, the word is derived fron the Greek "nostos" (to return home)!. I often feel nostalgia when I think of my father or grandfather!. That kind of feeling isn't attained by failure to explore new possibilities (that might induce regret, but not nostalgia)!.

Interesting question!.!.!.Honestly, I have no idea whether or not it represents "failure to explore new possibilities"!. However I am pretty sure it is not always an expression of desire to return to somewhere/something/someone!. Case en point: I have felt nostalgia not only for places I've loved but also for places I've hated!. Like, there can be a sleepaway camp experience or a year at school that I didn't like at all, and was miserable, and later I'll find myself missing the one thing there that I liked, or just missing the routine and feeling of it, even if I hated it and wouldn't want to go back!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Nostalgia is a yearning for when life appeared more simple and joyous to us!.

Normally associated with youth when our cares and priorities where lead by our hearts not our heads!.

Yes it is a form of suffering that we cannot fully appease; a bitter sweet regret that we all must feel at some point!.

But, we must remember, as long as we live, there is always the opportunity to follow our dreams, seek new potential, new people, new existence and new countries to reignite those feelings that make our heart sing!.and taste again those moments of pure happiness if we have the will to do so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Come off it - while there was no Golden Age, I would rather be my present 62 years in 1968 - or come to that 1958 - than in this age with which everything has gone wrong!.

And yes, I'm using my voice, and what little influence I have, to fight the bastards who are the masters of this age, and to make a better world for my grandchildren!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is a artifact of the human memory that seems to make all things better in retrospect than they truly were!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
