If benevolence is the performance of kind, charitable acts, and objectivism is rational self-interest (I had to look them up, I admit it), then the degree to which they do go hand in hand depends on the scope of one's self-identity!. One can identify oneself with one's own isolated individuality, a relationship, family, community, or the whole of mankind--anywhere on that continuum!. If I identify myself as an isolated individual, then my self-interest will tend to be opposed to other people's, and I will have very little benevolence!. The larger my self-identity is, the more my rational self-interest will be in harmony with others and the more benevolent I will be!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
