You forgive someone because you want to be the bigger person and because sometimes forgiving someone will allow you to move in some situations!. Sometimes you learn from situations that would help you avoid making the same mistake in the future!. Not forgetting the lessons that you have learned will save you alot of time/energy/problems!.

Like say that you had a friend who you told your secrets to and then you get in an argument and she tells everyone your secrets just because she is mad at you!. She asks for forgiveness because she knows she is wrong and you forgive her!. Would you automatically forget what happened and continue to be friends like before or will you remember and be more careful about what you tell her in the future!? Chances are that you will not be telling her any more secrets but will continue to be friends!. You have learned your lesson and keep in mind how you can avoid repeating the same mistake!. Makes sense!?

"The stupid neither forgive nor forget; the naive forgive and forget; the wise forgive but do not forget!. "

You have to face the situation, any situation that is unsettling for you, and see it for what it is!. Whether good, bad, or indifferent, you look at it and decide you are not going to be a part of the problem and so you do not react to it, which would only add fuel to the fire so to speak!. You "release it" and it will have no place in your life as you go forward!.

As to forgetting, it isn't wise to forget entirely but just set up a guidepost so that you'll not fall into the same situation somewhere down the road if you encounter that person or similar event again!. Fill your life with worthwhile thoughts and tasks to do that bring you an inner joy!. Let the past bury the past! Life is too short to be living in the past, really!.

Just some homespun advice being dished up, lol, but true!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

For me I forgive a person for causing me pain!. In that process of forgiveness I let go of the pain associated with the situation!. This does not mean I will forget what happened!. Remembering the situation will help you kept alert to not allowing the same situation to occur again!.

As to those whom I forgive, most I will give a second chance to re-earn my trust and respect!. Others who are not sorry for causing me pain I will dissociate with and remember to not put myself in the same situation or at least try not to!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because it's incredibly hard to forgive or forget, not to mention do both!. It's one thing to forgive someone for something such as infidelity, but its a whole different thing to actually let it go and forget!. You can choose to forgive, but how can you choose to forget!? It just happens!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Forgivness is a generous act of selfishness!. You have to forgive to go past something!. You forgive for your own benefit, not for the benefit of the forgiven!.
To forget would require a stroke or something!.
