Question: What does it mean to be a philosopher!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
A philosopher is one who is a student of philosophy or a specialist in philosophy!. He could be a man of practical wisdom!. The first poster answered you a very practical one however there is nothing especially precocious about this, for all the children begin as philosophers, iterating their wonder at the world by means of "wh" questions - why!. what, which until the irritation of the parents!.

Let me share this quote: 'Philosophy begins in wonder,' Alfred North Whitehead said, ' and when philosophic thought has done its best, the wonder remains!.' Another thing Socrates could have said that he knoew, because all sudents o philosophy know it,is that the wonder arrived at by philosphy is an enriched wonder, and one of the best of the human spirit!.

Thanks for asking!. Have a great day!Www@QuestionHome@Com

The words etymology can be translated to mean
"the love of wisdom or loving wisdom"
Philo means love in Greek and sophy mean wisdom!.
See also metaphysics, ontology, epistemology, axiology, aesthetics, and ethics!.
relative questions would be what is reality, what is being, what is knowledge, what is value and how is it different from fact or truth, what is beauty, and what is right or wrong or how should one live!.
Philosophy is formulating and understanding basic questions about existence by employing rational thought and reason!.
It is a highly methodically approach to the questions about existence!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, that is really something to think about!.
I guess if we were to define that question then everyone on this question would be right!. We are all philosophers in a sense!. Some discuss while others keep their thoughts to themselves, until something comes along that disagrees with those thoughts!. Everything is a philosophy!. Language, mathematics, science, cooking, cleaning, raising children, taking care of our elders, shopping, paying bills, it is all a philosophy and how you think these things should be done is your philosophy!. To ponder lifes little questions and find the answers and views, sharing them with others, and getting a little more of the answer of the biggest philosophical question of all " Why are we here and what is the meaning of life"!. By the time you have studied your philosophies, the answer to that question will have finally be answered!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I actually don't know!. I guess its someone who thinks philosophically and makes a profession out of it!.

Like an author writes books!.

Interesting question!. I don't consider myself a philosopher!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

these days, it means being formally educated in philosophy (its history, methods, theories, and objects of investigation) and then engaging in philosophical inquiry, and most likely also writing philosophy!.
