I believe, it's (as mentioned before) due to the Mayan calendar "recommendation", which has no real validity - just as!.!.!.( I'm sure, you may remember!.!.!.) - at the time of the millenium on the 31st Dec 1999, when all the "experts" proclaimed that all the "computer-systems", etc!. will!.!.!."break-down!.!.!. - and - !.!.!.NOTHING alike actually happened !!! So: do NOT worry all that much on such "myths"!.!.!.!.live your life & enjoy each day as much as you can !!!

Many people are discussing 2012 as the end of the world due to interpretations of predictions contained in the Mayan calendar!. The Mayan civilization was extremely advanced in mathematics, engineering and astronomy!. They also had an incredible understanding of time and space!. Various calendars were in use to track time in linear progressions within cycles!. The “Great Cycle” of the “Long Count” calendar equates to 5,125!.36 years!. The current Great Cycle is due to be completed on the winter solstice of 2012, December 21!. So, it has been interpreted that on this day, the Great Cycle ends, time ends, so the Earth must end as well!. However, there are different opinions on what this end date really means!.

As mentioned, some believe cataclysmic events will take place in 2012 with the ultimate destruction occurring on December 21, 2012!. Others believe that the world will not end, but instead humanity will enter a new age, marked by significant changes physically and mentally!.

Hopefully destruction will not occur and it will be just another day!. Maybe there will be some cosmic transformation!. Anything is possible and it makes for an interesting discussion none-the-lessWww@QuestionHome@Com

Technically, even if all life on earth ceased to be, the world (Earth) would still be here!.

Most ancient prophecies only have about 2/3 of the human population be eradicated at the end of times!. The Mayans just believe that we’d be entering the fourth era and it just so happens that there were major global catastrophes in the transition between the last two eras!. It doesn’t necessarily mean that it is a requirement!.

The history channel just had a great episode on the theory of the world ending in 2012!. It was the Mayans who believed this based on their calendar!. Very interesting!. You probably could watch it on youtube!.
