Question: Why do "Green" people feel so self-important!?
Wake up sheeple!. Going "green" is a business model!. I don't recycle!. I will never buy a hybrid!. We won't run out of oil for 1000 years!. 75% of the planet is water - we can filter it!. America has 100 years worth of grain stored in silos!. So excuse me for enjoying life and understanding that the earth will LONG OUTLIVE US!.

#1 - I live in NYC, and it was recently revealed that city living is actually far more "green" then suburban living!.

#2 - While hybrids do cause more pollution on the manufacturing line, as well as with the batteries that will pollute when they are depleted!.!.!.!.!. it is not the same level as a Hummer over the course of a year of use!. Though it would be far more "green" to buy a used Honda (they have good gas milage) then a new hybrid!. Your point is good!.!.!.!. but the hummer analogy (or any new car really) isn't!. And CFLs are horrible!.!.!.!.!. they will surely be shown to cause really big health problems (and they suck)!.

#3 I completely agree that food is not in short supply at all!.!.!.!. We could supply the whole world with food if we wanted to but their aint no money in it!. Water is also pretty abundant, however it is more in some places than others!.!.!.!.!. drought is a problem for areas that have drought (but really thats sort of a reason not to live in a desert)!. Your idea on energy is pretty silly though!.!.!.!.!. oil doesn't grow!. It is finite!.!.!.!.!. I don't know how much is left but we use a lot!.!.!.!. I wouldn't be surprised if we used most of it by now!. I also wouldn't be surprised if we had tons more!.

#4 - I think it is basically good that people are trying to look like they care!. Like everything it is being done incorrectly!. Instead of really analysing the problem finding a legitimate sollution and implementing it, people (sheeple) are simply going with whatever has a green label on it and a stamp of approval from Al Gore!. Thats nonsense!.

You are seemingly on the other side of the fence and rejecting everything without fully analysing it!. I agree with a lot of what you are saying, but I think you go too far with your rebuttal to the greens!.!.!.!.!. its like you are going purple!. I admit, everytime I hear "green" I want to punch someone in their egotistical face but some of their concepts are very real!.!.!.!. and potentially dangerous!. The problem is that the solutions they are currently proposing do absolutely nothing!.

Frankly!.!.!.!.!. if we want to stop polluting we need to invent non polluting technology that is superior too (or cheaper than) current polluting technology!. Its that simply, build a better car that is fuel free!.!.!.!.!.!. nobody wants to pay for gas if it can be avoided!. Build a better power plant that saves everyone money!. Without that there is no point to this green madness!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because being green is trendy right now!. People actually believe that they, as an individual can change and improve the current of the earth by recycling, driving fuel efficient cars, and using porcelain mugs instead of plastic cups!. In reality, to make a significant change, the entire world population, including governments, will need to combine their effort to improve problems like pollution!.

Did you know that one airplane flight from LA to NY is the "carbon footprint" equivalent of driving a Hummer for a year!? So because there are about 50-60,000 flights per day in the US, and about 20-25 million flights per year in the US, that's like having 25 million people all driving Hummers all-year long!. Think about what this means world-wide!? I think the figures are astounding! Taking this to the individual level, having even 1 million people per year go "green" will not make enough of a difference to "save the planet!." Governments worldwide will need to make this a priority in order for this to have some sort of visible and measurable affect!.!.!.!.!.perhaps making hybrids more affordable, lowering E-85 fuel costs, and making things like solar panels and fluorescent lightbulbs less expensive will encourage people to be green (I would never pay $6 for one lightbulb)!. At the current rates, it would cost me 5 times as much as I spend now on living expenses to make the green transition!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Actually there are some things you can do that is considered green and makes good sense!. Unfortunatly, there are a lot a green ideas that have no scientific basis and a large portion of BS covered with an environmentalist wrapper!. I guess you can blame the sheep that graduated with C's and D's in science and look to Hollywood for their 'expert' opinion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

filtering sea water costs lots of electricity!.

Oil or coal won't run out, but it will fill the atmosphere with lots of crap!.

Even if you don't care about global warming, care about the increase in cancer that causes!.

You are more likely to get cancer if you live in a city!. It's like smoking sometimes!.

So, don't be a dick and recycle when you can!. Don't stop enjoying life, but there's no need to **** the earth for the generation after us!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

wow!.!.!.

They feel important because they are typically informed education people that have respect for others!. Its completely possible to enjoy life while making the most of your resources, its another thing to drive a hemi engine car, waste resources, and ruin peoples lives!. The ones who are green also save money and typically are wealthy!. I am sure you are some uninformed pompus *** who drives a V-8 F-250 and lives out in the woods!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I do agree!. I understand that everyone has their passion but I dont know why they think that because they are 'doing something good' for the planet that makes them any better than the rest of us!. I dont recycle either, at least I dont go out of my way to do so!. I probably wont have a hybrid car either, except its better on gas and cheaper on my wallet!. ill do some things and i throw my trash where it belongs and stuff but i dont believe in any of this global warming crap!. the earth and weather changes every few decades and centuries and none of you were around 200 years ago to tell me that im wrong!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I don't know why "Green" people feel so self-important!. I think its because they think they're saving the Earth or some sh*t like that!. Neither me nor my kids or anyone my kids know will be alive to see it anyway!. I can't be worried about everyone!. Hell, I'm having a hard enough time taking care of myself and the loved ones!. That other stuff is gonna have to wait!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

NEWSFLASH: AMERICA ISN'T THE WORLD!. Yes, we have grain reserves, while some of the world starves!. No, we cannot filter the entire oceans and drink them!. You are misinformed!. Yes, the earth will long oulive us!. But some of us like doing out part to reduce the damage we do while we are here!. Your children will be glad we did!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I don't!. But then again, I just kind of went green cause the cost of gas and energy is making me go broke lol!. I just hate giving those greedy oil and natural gas people my money!.

Really, a little effort goes a long way!. Not to mention, YOU will be saving some serious cash! Why not!? its simply a trend!.

it really pisses me off though!. a lot of them are freaking hypocrites!. what perturbed me the most was when an ex-friend of mine was wearing a 'go green' shirt while wasting a billion plastic bags!. i taught her all she knows about the environments and she still acts all stuck up and self-important!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

If they feel that way, and I did not know that they do, maybe it is because they feel personally involved in something very important!. People who are actively involved in something they feel is vital to humanity often project self importance due to their convictions!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

What are you complaining about!? The fact that people care about more than your own immediate pleasures in life!? And you think they are arrogant!. Youre a self-righteous, hypocritical prick!. You think you are being virtuous by being entirely self-absorbed!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In my time appearence of" small green people" has a meaning of being overdrinking !.Those was visiting us in alcohol indused comas!.!.!. As I see there is no difference really with a modern green ones!.!.!.!.it is a!.nightmare! they still small and uglyWww@QuestionHome@Com

green people decide to act all snobbish cuz they're "making a difference" and ur not, and they really should just mind they're own bussinessWww@QuestionHome@Com

its all about MONEYWww@QuestionHome@Com

I am fairly green, and I wouldn't say I consider myself to be "self-important"!.

Yes, there are certainly people/companies trying to cash in on the "green movement"!. No disagreement there!.

I'm curious to know where you're getting your figure of 1000 years from, for oil!. Most research I've heard from indicates much, much less than that!. If you have sources, please post them - I would be interested to read them!.

You don't want to recycle, I suppose that's your business, but a) people who live near landfills, or proposed new landfills, aren't going to like that, and b) in general it's cheaper to make a product out of recycled materials than to go out and mine (or whatever other method) new raw materials to make it, so it seems odd to me that you're so against reducing waste that you're willing to economically disadvantage yourself over it!.

Ditto the hybrid - purely from a "money in your pocket" point of view, over the life of the car it's cheaper to own a hybrid!. You want to spend more money, that's your business, but it strikes me as a little odd!.

You didn't mention it, but ditto CFLs for that matter - if they cost 10x more than an incandescent but last 20x as long, then with CFLs your lifetime expenditure on lightbulbs will be half as much!. Yeah, yeah, I know, but the expenditure is all up front, and you could instead invest that money at 10% and blah blah!.

Interesting point about filtering salt water to make it drinkable (I assume that's what you meant)!. I live in a fairly rainy area so I really don't know anything about the need, pros, or cons of that!.

I'm also not a farmer - will grain really keep for 100 years!? Somehow I doubt that!. And grain isn't the only thing we eat!.

And yes, the earth will outlive us!. Fully agree!. But I don't think anyone is claiming that being "non-green" is going to make the Earth physically cease to exist - they're saying that it will make the Earth a less habitable place to live!. Ever tried to breathe the air in China or India!? It sucks, and it sucks because they have lots of pollution there!. The whole point is just that 6 billion people times a big old can or two of garbage on the curb each week equals a whole lot of trash, and 6 billion people times a few gallons of gasoline each week equals a lot of oil and a lot of exhaust emissions!.

Are you or I going to make a significant difference individually!? No, of course not!. But neither will we individually make a significant difference in an election by casting a single vote, but many of us still do that!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
