Question: I had taken admission in PHILOSOPHY HONORS,my Parents beat me with IRON CHAIN,STICK and BELT,what i should do!?
i am 20 years old boy from delhi,i had taken admission in philosophy honors,my session will start from 15 july!.
when my parents came to know about this,they beat me with iron chains,sticks and belts,they want to make me a doctor,but i dont want to became a doctor at all!.
they said PHILOSOPHY is a useless subject,and there is no scope or career in it is this true!?
how i can avoid such a sense less parents,they take out blood out of my body,i also cant complaint the police!.
what are career and scope of philosophy honors!? does it is a worthless subject to study!? my parents called it worthless and i want to shut there mouth,advice me please career and scope of philosophy

Philosophy is the basis of all knowledge!. Everything we take for 'fact' began as philosophy!. People questioned their surroundings, their state of mind, their physical state etc!. and this is the only reason we live in a world like the one today!. Without philosophy there would be no medicine! so throw that in their faces!. Anyway!.!.!. philsophy opens your mind to millions of possibilities that were hardly visible beforehand!. It makes you question your assumptions and think about the problems in the world!. With a BA philosophy, there are endless possibilities, since you study a lot of ethics, you can easily get into law school since you think ethically and make good decisions!. Many businesses employ philosophy grads for their ethics department and medicine is dependent on ethics!!! Many businesses look for philosophy grads to employ because they are so well rounded, have good decision making skills and they know how to think!. That may sound strange, but philosophy teaches you how to think critically and analytically and I dont know any better skill than that!. Finally you can always become a professor and inspire the minds of young scholars!.!.!. I guess if none of that works out you can run into the mountains and write philosophy!.!.!.!. hey, it worked for nietzsche!
I think if you work hard and achieve good grades, the possibilities are endless!. Tell your parents the value philosophy has in our world, modern thought developed because of philosophy!!!
maybe if they understand its importance, they will be more accepting!.

i cant believe people get away with treating others in this way, even in Delhi!. Keep your mind strong, your body will heal!. You know what is best for you - you can follow your dream!. If you work hard you will be away from these controlling people - you could teach/lecture - surely the teaching profession is an honourable one!?

Sorry to hear about that, but there really isn't much of a career path for a philosophy gradtuate!. One or two end up teaching philosophy - most just use it as a generic degree, to show that they've been to university!. Despite it being a challenging and interesting subject, it is not very well respected by employers!.
If you need to do a degree to get a career, rather than for the pleasure of doing it - do something different!. You can always do another course and take 'guest' modules in philosohpy, which is what I did!.!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
What has not thoroughly brutalised you, will make you stronger!. Parents invest much time into the rearing of offspring!. How horrendous is it to find the doctor you have lived and dreamed for is actually a philosopher!.
Understand their abject misery and desist from a philosophical path!. Parental disappointment is recouped when you produce children in later years!. Be a doctor, and make Ma and Pa proud!. If they have inflicted harm, warn hem to do so no more or there will be repercussions!.

You know what I do now!?
I work for a software firm because I studied practical things alongside philosophy!.Don't get me wrong,I love the subject but there are Zero jobs out there for philosophers!.Unless you hit on something spectacular and get published but what are the chance of that happening!?
My Advice:
Read as much philospohy as you want,broaden your mind etc,but whats wrong with trying to be a doctor!?You get to help people!.As the Dali Lama says "Wherever you go,do good and where you can do no good,do no harm"!.You have the opportunity to do something good!.So I say Go for it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
