Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: In the field of phenomenology and cognitive sciences a lot of interesting works are being done by Stephen Pinker, Douglas Hofstadter, Nicholas Humphrey, Stanislas Debaene, Jonah Lehrer, Oliver Sacks, Michael Shermer, Vilayanur Ramachandran in popularizing the metaphors that are expanding our language about consciousness!. On a more rigorous and professional level the works of Shaun Gallagher, William Bechtel, and others stand out!. Although they are dead three 20th century philosophers of science stand out: Karl Popper, Thomas S!. Kuhn, and Paul Feyerabend!. They are a must read for any serious student of the philosophy of science!.Www@QuestionHome@Com Not alive since early nineties, unfortunately, but David Bohm has given an amazing contribution to philosophy by finding a red thread between science and philosophy in quantum mechanics!. As for interesting, I give a vote to Alan Watts, although he too has been gone for a while!. Not very traditional, but damn, how refreshing! Hillary Putnam is probably one of the most interesting people that ever did analytical philosophy in America!. For Continental postmodern delights, see Jean-Luc Nancy!. For second-generation Frankfurt School thought, its most preeminent son is Jurgen Habermas!.
