If you define smart as the ability to solve problems, then no!. Ways of thinking allow us to solve problems, they are a form of technology and get more sophisticated over time!. Anyone should be able to beat an ancient greek at a game of poker because they didn't have probability, they couldn't answer the question "which came first, the chicken or the egg!?"
Because of our ideas we act smarter, we don't go carrying a large metal rod in a thunderstorm or touch cooked meat after touching uncooked meat!.

I suppose it all depends on your definition of smart though, whether you measure it relative to the rest of society or not!.

With your definition of smart I'd say yes, I am!. Consider the a basic human problem like storing food for as long as possible!. My solution would be built on knowledge of bacteria, freeze drying, vacuum sealing, tinning and refrigeration!. My method would be scientific, so my solution would get better over time!.
A simple mathematical problem, find the first 200 prime numbers!. I could do this in a two line computer program!.

Then again, maybe smartness isn't about answering questions!. Perhaps its about asking them!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don't you have to consider your Social Environment, your Cultural Environment, the Scientific Advancement pertaining to that time, in comparison to this, and!. The World Communication situation, BEFORE YOU START MAKING JUDGEMENTS ALNG THOSE LINES!.
