That depends on which state and whose morals!. If you are referring to secular government then the answer is no!. Laws in secular government are supposed to be (and generally are) based on the societal best!. There are many things that are widely considered immoral, but are not against any laws!. This is because though their morality is questionable their harm to society is either not clear, or determined as nominal!.

This is why gambling and prostitution is legal in some states and not others!.!.!.!. it is because those areas see them as more beneficial (or their illigality would be distructive)!. If gambling were outlawed in Las Vegas it would be catastrophic for that city and for Nevada as well!. Therefore it is more beneficial then it is harmful!.

There are some groups (Christians) who constantly attempt to make the laws mirror their particular moral beliefs!. Many of them even claim that this nation is based on Christian morality, even though only 2 of the ten commandments are against the law!. 8 of the most sacred rules of Judeo-Christian teaching are not only legal, but some are actually encouraged in capitalist society!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Its all about power and teh morals come later unfortunately!

If you look into morals, you will find that they are nothing but a regulation of ego!.

And ego can be regulated in a variety of ways!

Lests say that we keep some standards, which I dont think we do, but the basic rules of respect for life, and the rights of the individual do apply at this level!.

Other ones do no, lets say how we regulate our ego to think that some people are not as much humans as us, so that we can drop bombs in their cities, its colled the dehumanisation proces!. Just for a basic example!.

I recomend you look it up!.

IN the western society morals have allways been decided by the rich!.

Today we even have a celebrity culture which forms much of culture and the way of life of quite a large majority of the populatiion!.

This is somewhat intertwined with the government laws, because they want to be popular to those people! so sometimes it works for as long as the society is not corrupt!Www@QuestionHome@Com

No they are based on maintaining the status quo!. The rich and powerful want to keep their wealth and power!. Hence it is illegal for a mother to steal a loaf of bread to feed her starving children because that would have paid for two inches of paint on the bread corporation executives private yacht!. It is illegal for people to use cannabis medicinally because it opens people's minds and enables them to see the scam they have pulled and the flaws in the system!. They want to keep us in our place and not demand liberty, equality and fraternity!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
