He worked on perception and such quite a bit, and concluded that by 'sound' we generally mean that first-person experential quality or "hearing" something - therefore, "sound" is not really in objects, but in our minds, that is mind-dependent!. This is Type (1), of course!. However, he also noted that sound can be studied using physics, and hence, does not need to be heard!. So, in this sense of the term 'sound' it clearly is a part of objects, and hence mind-independent!. This is Type (2)!. This answer - the one I just gave - is standard in psychology, cognitive science, analytic philosophy, and such!. It has be known for quite a while: It's called the Primary and Secondary Qualities, which Locke first coined'!. 'Primary Qualities' are mind-independent!. So, 'mass' or 'electric charge' is a primary quality of an object!. 'Secondary Qualities' are mind-dependent!. So, 'sound' or 'color' or 'hot' and 'cold', are all relational on an experiencing being having thos event's like 'sound-sensation' in their minds, and the dispotion of object producing the sensation in the person!.
