I believe there's going to be a complete break down of civilization/society/nations as we know it!. Think how ugly things are in places like Somalia and other 3rd world countries!. The world runs on oil and with out it, everything comes to a grinding halt!. I'm a truck driver and travel all over the 11 western states and read the local newspapers when ever I can!. I see more and more articles about people who have already started changing their life styles by investing in solar panels, wood stoves, bicycles, starting gardens, etc!. These people are in their 40's and 50's!. Would you pay $20 for a gallon of gas!? If not, how about $10 for a bus ticket to ride on your local city bus route!? You either pay the going price, walk or ride a bicycle!. With fuel prices continually going up, the costs of goods will also being going up!. EVERTHING you have was brought in thru the use of oil and trucks delivering these goods!. The clothes on your back, the food on your table!.etc!. If you'd like a better understanding what it would be like with out oil/gas in our lives, read the book Alas, Babylon!. My father/mother and their families went thru the depression in the 20's and that was before the world became so dependent on oil!. I could go on, but read the book I suggested!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

when we start running too short it will get too expensive, we will then at some point be more prepared to pay more for alternatives, since they would still be cheaper that oil based things!.

we would also be able to afford less luxuries probably since we have now become dependent on a certain amount of technology!.

the industrial revolution in a way started our doom, but truly it was just that the tools of misled men who acted badly got better, to the point where now they can affect the outcome of the planet!.

but those men still existed before, and they still ruled the world badly before!.

if the world was well ruled, our technology would be an asset rather than our doom!.

it's not the tools that the problem it's how we're using them!.!.!.!. for profit!.

in all likelihood our planet will already be doomed if we burn enough oil to really be out!.

whether that happens or not depends on how much oil exists in comparison to the size of the planet!. right now, only the price will dictate how much of it we burn!. that's called free market!. what we have chosen to do is leave our fate up to free market!. rather than be intelligent about how we choose to use our resources, by studying and planning!.

The problem isn't that we're close to being out of oil, it's that we are having a harder time getting the oil out of the ground!. I think that by the time we run out (100-150 years or so, at the current rate of consumption) then we'll hopefully have another source of power!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You DO have a pessimistic view! Given the fact that you chose an extremely odd name for an Avatar and the first thing that you thought of in such a scenario is man 'killing' man (in frustration!?)!

Trust a man's survival instinct! Some Genius or another IS most probably working on finding an alternative right at this very moment! And before you could spell RADIATION, you'd be given the good news (I do have high hopes)!

Even if we are to go back to good old days of our forefathers, it couldn't be so bad! That would be an act of MERCY by Providence!. We will be closer to nature and (hopefully) wiser enough not to repeat the MISTAKE of raping Mother Earth so!

The oil companies will go broke!!! Hallelujah, the current oil exporters can go back to sitting their sandpiles, and the US will finally be forced to switch to other sources of energy!.

I believe that buy that time we will all have an energy policy that will be very diverse!. Our energy doesn't have to be just one source, we can have multiple energy streams!. We can atomic, wind, solar, and coal and well as good old muscle power!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
