We simply don't know the length of it!. Many written guarantees are given, but when needed, turns out they are worthless promises!. It is not possible to enter the physical plane of existence and not generate karma!. Every breath one takes is taking thousands of lives!. Every step one takes is likewise wiping out many Souls!. You can reasonably infer from empirical observation that other people die, but you can't be sure that YOU will (until you have, in fact, died, in which case you probably won't be around to see the proof)!.
