At age 14, Bono's grandfather!.!.!. who he was very close to!.!.!. died of heart failure!. Three days later!.!.!. at his funeral!.!.!. Bono's mother Iris Hewson suffered a stroke and died as well!. So at 14, he lost two very important people to him!.

Bono and his father never got along when he was young!. He was a very angry and spiritually searching individual!. While attending Mount Temple School in Dublin, he answered an ad placed by drummer Larry Mullen, Jr!. for band auditions!. That was when U2 first met each other!.

At age 21, Bono was introduced to a Bible study group in Dublin!. It was there where Bono first learned of Christianity and had a spiritual awakening!. Since then, Bono has tried to reflect a strong spiritual sense both in his music and his lifestyle!.

I think had Bono not taken the time out to discover real Christianity (not the judgmental, hate-filled, "let's throw stones at gays and pregnant teens" version of "Christianity" that most people practice in the states, but a real, honest relationship with God) he never would have found the unique niche that his lyrics and his music have burrowed into!. Bono would have faded out with all other early 80s bands and had been nothing more than a mere footnote in the pages of rock history!.
