Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: People think in terms of "syllogisms," though they happen so quickly we don't think of it that way!. Someone asks you a question, you pop off a one word answer, no problem!. But that one word answer was the conclusion of syllogistic thinking!. On to logic!. There are 256 forms of syllogisms!. Only 15 are valid by Aristotle's count, 24 if you eliminate one of his rules!. So out of 256 ways that your mind can put thoughts together, only 15-24 are valid!. Yet, valid does not mean "sound!." "Valid" only means the syllogism fits the proper form of a syllogism that has the possibility of being correct!. Valid syllogisms can have incorrect conclusions!. To insure a correct conclusion, the syllogism must also be "sound!." There can be many "sound" conclusions!. This is where reason comes in!. It is the task of reason to choose among the sound conclusions based on the criteria, the context, of what you are looking for!. If the question is, "How do you kill germs!?" then the answer "soap and water" is not the only correct answer, especially if you are talking about germs in someone's eyes!. Logic is getting to the "sound" conclusion!.
