I don't believe true happiness to be a material acquisition!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Obviously desire less!. Not just aquisitions and possessions!. If you desire beauty or fame for instance then you'll always be frustrated!. If you desire to satisfy your tongue and senses then you'll be sick and miserable!. Just desire pure love and service to God and He will take care of all your material needs!. To be simple hearted we should just accept as much material aquisitions as are necessary to keep body and soul together while we focus, undistracted, on achieving spiritual goals!.
In India I see how most people have little materially, yet they are the happy ones!. They are unburdened by both possessions and desire for them!. They feel satisfaction because they obviously have some wisdom!.
Some are not satisfied with being poor and they are miserable, always trying to make money by cheating means!.
Those in the big cities are like people of the west in the sense that they're working and becoming a bit well off!. But theyre not as happy as the simple people: peasants and sadhus!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not too long ago, there was a story on 60 Minutes about the happiest people in the world!. Surveyors had identified one country where people reported feeling the most content!. Guess where it was - Denmark! The interesting thing about the story is that the people of Denmark attributed their happiness to being able to lower their expectations!. So, I guess that would qualify for the "desire less" portion of your question!.

For myself, I think desiring less would probably work out the best!. Often, acquiring more does not make a person's feelings of emptyness or longing go away!. It symbolizes a desire for fulfillment of something the person is not getting!.

The only exception would be to aquire more qualitative things like love, compassion or wisdom!. Then, the first choice in your question would make more sense!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
