Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
1) He already believes the world is round, as he has been told it his whole life!.

2) he has the means to quickly test the truth of the statement about the bench, but no means to quickly test the truth of the statement about the world!. He is willingly to conditionally believe both statements, but since he has the means to confirm one, he tests it!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Or, why is it that if you tell a man that there is a God in Heaven who will answer your prayers he'll believe you but if you tell him a bench has wet paint he has to touch it himself!?

I say the answer is that few sane people rely on God to take care of their lives--they know very well that if they relied on God to provide food and shelter they'd be dead by now!. God provided us with a vehicle (our body) 5 senses, and powers of discernment to enable us to survive in the world!. I say use them the same way you would to confirm that the bench has wet paint and use your judgment and discernment to make your way in the world!. On a very real level people know this which is why they don't rely on God and prayer to give them the necessities of life even though they may claim to do so!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Because as people we have lots of curiosity from experience!. And telling someone that the world is round they probably already know!. Cause what we know is true we believe but what we are int sure of we have to find out!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
