Question: Is "mind your own business" a valid statement or is it an attempt to silence people with different opinions!?
The way people use this phrase today, I think it's the latter!. What do you think!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

It depends on the circumstances!. If someone is telling you how to run your personal life, as long as you aren't hurting anyone, you have a right to tell them to mind their own business!. If people are just discussing ideas, then everyone has a right to voice his or her opinion!. That's what free speech is all about!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's at least the first and maybe both!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think it's the former!. It's a basic, literal statement, telling another to focus on themselves and not others!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It can mean your 'different opinion` is unwelcome!.
Unsolicited advice can be an insult!.
Before butting in, you might ask yourself whether
you have an interest in the matter under discussion!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is a little of both but I think you are right most of the time!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It is an attempt to establish a boundary!. It becomes an issue when the boundary is not recognized by both parties!.
For example if you are a guy talking to your girlfriend and a guy walking by decides to chime in on your conversation, you are within your rights to tell him he has crossed the line and to mind his own business!.
If you are being physically abusive with your girlfriend then it is no longer a private matter and the boundaries are changed!. Others such as the police may intervene and it is no longer just your business!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

'Mind your own business' is a statement I use on myself as a reminder that the World does not circle around me!. Sometimes I am under the impression that my opinions are the only ones with true validity because they are born from my life experience!. As long as my actions and words are directed from me than they indeed should be about me!. Not about someone else that I have witnessed stumbling through life!. My main concern should be for the only person I truly have control over!. When I exercise my opinion about something other than that - I must question my motives!. And I do on occasionWww@QuestionHome@Com

People who mind their own business, do not want you to know their opinions!.

They know you don't care!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
